Buy-sell spread increases sharply
Domestic gold prices are greatly affected by the developments of the world market. When international prices fluctuate strongly, domestic SJC gold bars and gold rings often adjust accordingly, although the increase and decrease may vary between businesses.

After a year, world gold prices increased from 3,350.1 USD/ounce on August 4, 2025 to 4,577.3 USD/ounce on August 4, 2026, equivalent to an increase of 70.72 USD/ounce, about 21.1%. This increase contributed to bringing domestic gold prices up, helping buyers from a year ago record significant profits.
However, the difference between buying and selling prices at many businesses has also been widened. With SJC gold bars, the difference at DOJI increased from 1.6 million VND to 3 million VND/tael; Bao Tin Minh Chau increased from 1.6 million VND to 4 million VND/tael; Phu Quy increased from 2.6 million VND to 3 million VND/tael.
For 9999 gold rings, the difference at DOJI increased from 2.5 million VND to 4 million VND/tael; Bao Tin Minh Chau increased from 3 million VND to 4 million VND/tael, while Phu Quy remained unchanged at 3 million VND/tael.
The buy-sell gap of 3-4 million VND/tael makes buyers likely to suffer corresponding losses immediately after the transaction. Gold prices must increase by at least this difference, buyers are likely to break even.
In the context that gold prices are still high, people should not buy out of fear of missing opportunities or chasing short-term uptrends. If world gold prices continue to fall, the domestic market may be under downward pressure, while a high buying-selling spread will increase the risk of losses.
