World gold prices increase, domestic prices fall sharply
After 3 months, the gold market recorded mixed movements between the world and the domestic market. While world gold prices increased by nearly 79 USD/ounce compared to May 22, 2026, domestic SJC gold bar and 9999 gold ring prices decreased by more than 14 million VND/tael, causing buyers in high price areas to face large losses when selling.
On August 22, 2026, world gold prices were recorded at 4,602.4 USD/ounce, an increase of 78.9 USD/ounce compared to 4,523.5 USD/ounce on May 22, 2026. According to the ratio, world gold prices increased by about 1.75% in 3 months.

In contrast to world gold, domestic SJC gold bar prices are currently significantly lower than on May 22, 2026. At Phu Quy and DOJI, SJC gold bar prices on August 22 were listed at 144.6 - 147.6 million VND/tael (buying - selling).
Three months ago, SJC gold bar prices at these two brands were at 159.4 - 162.4 million VND/tael. Thus, the buying price decreased by 14.8 million VND/tael, while the selling price also decreased by 14.8 million VND/tael.
If people bought gold on May 22 with a selling price of 162.4 million VND/tael and resold it today at a buying price of 144.6 million VND/tael, the loss could be up to 17.8 million VND/tael.
At Bao Tin Minh Chau, the current SJC gold bar price is at 144.1 - 148.1 million VND/tael, down 15.3 million VND/tael on the buying side and down 14.3 million VND/tael on the selling side compared to 3 months ago.
Gold buyers here on May 22 at a price of 162.4 million VND/tael, if sold now, may suffer a loss of about 18.3 million VND/tael.

Not only SJC gold bars, 9999 gold rings also recorded a significant decrease. At Phu Quy, 9999 gold rings are currently listed at 144.6 - 147.6 million VND/tael, down 14.8 million VND/tael in both directions compared to 159.4 - 162.4 million VND/tael on May 22.
Gold ring buyers in Phu Quy 3 months ago, if sold at the present time, could lose about 17.8 million VND/tael.
At DOJI, 9999 gold rings decreased to 144.5 - 148.5 million VND/tael. Compared to 3 months ago, the buying price decreased by 14.9 million VND/tael, and the selling price decreased by 13.9 million VND/tael. With the current price, DOJI gold ring buyers on May 22 may suffer a loss of about 17.9 million VND/tael.
Meanwhile, 9999 gold rings at Bao Tin Minh Chau decreased from 159.4 - 162.4 million VND/tael to 144.1 - 148.1 million VND/tael. Gold rings buyers at this brand if sold today may suffer a loss of about 18.3 million VND/tael.

High buying-selling spread increases risk
One of the factors that causes gold buyers to suffer great losses is that the difference between buying and selling prices is still high.
On August 22, the buying - selling difference at popular brands ranged from 3-4 million VND/tael. This makes buyers possibly suffer significant losses even when gold prices only fluctuate slightly in a downward direction.
Developments in the past 3 months show that world gold prices and domestic gold prices may follow different directions in each period. Therefore, buying gold needs to be considered based on many factors instead of just looking at the upward trend of international gold prices.
Although world gold prices are still higher than 3 months ago, people should not follow the fear of missing opportunities (FOMO) when the market is hot.
Buying gold at high prices, especially in the context of a large buying-selling spread, may put investors at risk of losses if prices turn down.
In addition, the adjustment momentum of world gold prices currently may continue to put pressure on the domestic market, pulling gold prices down deeper if the downward trend is maintained.
Information about increases, decreases and profit/loss in the article only reflects the diễn biến of gold prices at the times mentioned, not an investment recommendation. People need to consider carefully before making a decision to buy or sell gold, and at the same time assess the risks related to price fluctuations and the difference between buying and selling.
