The stock market on February 6 recorded a tense development with strong differentiation between industry groups. VN-Index increased slightly by nearly 2 points, while many small and medium-cap stocks increased simultaneously.
At the end of the session, the VN-Index increased by 1.87 points (0.15%) to 1,271.48 points. On the HOSE floor, the number of stocks decreasing in price was overwhelming with 233 stocks, while only 206 stocks increased in price, of which 12 stocks hit the ceiling. Notably, the group of small and medium-cap stocks continued to attract cash flow, helping many stocks hit the ceiling. Typically, CSM (Southern Rubber Industry Joint Stock Company) with a trading value of more than 71.2 billion VND, PAC (Southern Battery Joint Stock Company) and TMT (TMT Automobile Joint Stock Company), although this enterprise has just announced a loss of more than 315 billion VND in 2024.
Market liquidity decreased slightly compared to the previous session, reaching over VND12,900 billion. This is the second consecutive session that cash flow into the market has decreased, showing the cautious sentiment of investors. Foreign investors continued to net sell about VND345 billion, marking the fourth consecutive session of net selling. The codes that were heavily sold by foreign investors include VNM, FRT and MWG.
Market developments reflect a tug-of-war sentiment as the VN-Index approaches an important resistance zone. While large-cap stocks are under pressure to correct, cash flows are looking for opportunities in small-cap stocks, which have their own stories. Experts say that if cash flows do not improve in the coming sessions, the VN-Index may have difficulty breaking out.
However, the market's uptrend is still being maintained with support from the seaport, construction and telecommunications technology sectors. Stocks such as GMD, VSC, CTD, HBC, FPT and CMG continue to be bright spots, helping the index maintain a slight increase.
With foreign investors maintaining a net selling trend and weakening cash flow, investors are advised to trade cautiously, limit chasing purchases at high prices and observe more market signals in the coming sessions.
