According to Article 4 of Resolution No. 66.12/2026/NQ-CP, the Military Command of commune level has 10 tasks:
1. Advise the Party Committee and superior commanders; commune-level Party Committees and authorities to lead the construction of the all-people national defense, the all-people national defense posture associated with the people's security posture, building defense areas, building comprehensively strong bases; advise the commune-level People's Committee on the organization, construction, and mobilization of militia forces according to the provisions of law.
2. Advise the Party Committee and commune-level government to implement state management of local defense work; direct, manage, and operate the implementation of national defense and military tasks in localities; unify the command of armed forces when there are national defense situations according to the provisions of law.
3. Training, combat readiness

5. Construction of defense areas
6. National defense and security education
7. Logistics and technical work
8. Coordinate with the Police, Border Guard, Navy, Coast Guard, Fisheries Surveillance, Forest Protection and relevant agencies and organizations to maintain political security, social order and safety, prevent and combat crime, protect territorial integrity, sea and island sovereignty, and national borders in accordance with the law and competent authorities.
9. Coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, relevant agencies and organizations at the commune level to propagate and mobilize people to implement the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, policies and laws of the State, participate in building comprehensively strong grassroots units, and implement social policies.
10. Perform other tasks according to the provisions of law, orders of superior commanders.
According to Clause 3, Article 20 of the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces (in which Point c is amended by Point c, Clause 9, Article 10 of the Law amending 11 Laws on Military and National Defense 2025), the Commune-level Military Command has 6 functions and tasks.
