Duties and powers of the Chairman of the People's Council of the commune

The Lao Dong Newspaper Legal Consulting Office replied:

Clause 1, Article 30 of the Law on Organization of Local Government 2025 (effective from March 1, 2025) stipulates that the Chairman of the People's Council has the following duties and powers:

a) Chair meetings of the People's Council, ensure implementation of regulations on the activities of People's Council delegates, regulations on meetings of the People's Council; sign to certify the Resolution of the People's Council;

b) Lead the work of the Standing Committee of the People's Council; direct the preparation of the expected program, convene and chair the meetings of the Standing Committee of the People's Council;

c) On behalf of the Standing Committee of the People's Council, maintain contact with the People's Committee, state agencies, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, member organizations of the same-level Front, other social organizations and the People;

d) The Chairman of the People's Council decides to temporarily suspend the work of the Vice Chairman of the People's Council, Head of the Committee, Deputy Head of the Committee of the People's Council at the same level, and Chairman of the People's Council at the direct subordinate level in cases prescribed by competent authorities.

Thus, from March 2025, the Chairman of the People's Council of the commune has the duties and powers according to the above regulations.
