Spreading false information on Facebook fined up to 40 million VND

Article 11, Section 1, Chapter II, Decree No. 330/2026/ND-CP stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of network security and personal data protection (effective from August 19, 2026) stipulates the creation and dissemination of information in cyberspace with untrue content, unverified, causing confusion among the people, affecting social order as follows:

2. A fine of between 10 million VND and 20 million VND shall be imposed for the following acts:

a) Making and spreading false information that has not been verified, affecting the legitimate rights and interests of organizations, individuals and the information environment in cyberspace.

Article 7, Decree No. 330/2026/ND-CP stipulates the level of fines and sanctioning authority as follows:

1. From Section 1 to Section 5 of Chapter II, this Decree stipulates the level of fines applied to administrative violations in the field of network security committed by individuals. In case an organization has the same violation, the fine applied to the organization is equal to two times the fine applied to the individual.

Thus, from August 19, 2026, the creation and dissemination of unverified false information affecting the legitimate rights and interests of organizations, individuals and the information environment on Facebook may be fined up to 40 million VND for organizations and 20 million VND for individuals.
