The 2025 university and college entrance exams are expected to have many changes. Notably, the early admission form may be eliminated.
At the career guidance session, the enrollment ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City in January, Director of the Department of Education of Nguyen Thu Thuy University said that the 2025 enrollment period will abandon the concept of early admission.
Ms. Thuy said that even if candidates are admitted early, they still have to reincorporate their wishes on the general admission system and candidates can only win 1 wish. Early admission like in recent years has wasted time and finances for schools as well as candidates.
“The goal of early admission was for excellent students, but in recent years, this has only been beneficial for weak students. Why do we have to focus on giving priority to these students,” said Ms. Thuy.

Nguyen Xuan Huy, a 12th grader in District 12, said he was not too worried even though he had previously planned to apply for early admission to some private schools. "I think all changes are aimed at the best interests of candidates, so whether to remove or keep early admission will be carefully considered. I just need to focus on studying and reviewing," Xuan Huy said.
Pham Minh Trung - a 12th grade student in Phu Nhuan district - expressed support for eliminating early admission. "This will make students more focused on studying, not negligent, and subjective because they have passed the university early. Since the beginning of the school year, I have heard some friends say that they will submit early admission based on transcripts to each school and when they have a pass results, they will not have to worry about studying anymore," Minh Trung shared.
Both Xuan Huy and Minh Trung expressed their hope that the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) would soon announce the enrollment regulations so that schools could provide official enrollment information and candidates would have time to prepare.

Currently, although the Ministry of Education and Training has not announced the enrollment regulations, many universities have announced expected enrollment information. Most of the schools have made adjustments compared to last year.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan - Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that in 2025, three admission methods will be unified: Direct admission; Admission based on the results of the Competency Assessment Test organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University; Admission based on high school exam results.
In the 2024 enrollment period, Ho Chi Minh City National University member schools will enroll students according to 5-9 methods (depending on the school).
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education said that from 2025, the school will not use the admission method based on high school academic results (transcripts). The school only retains the thresholds to ensure input quality to meet the requirements according to the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The school orients the method of using specialized competency assessment exams to become independent admission methods.
This method is expected to include the use of 2 subjects for admission to each major, in which one main subject is multiplied by a coefficient of 2 and one secondary subject does not multiply the coefficient, helping to comprehensively evaluate the learning capacity and suitability of candidates with the requirements of each major.
The school's expected admission methods include: Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Priority admission and admission of specialized class students; Admission based on specialized capacity assessment exams; Admission based on the 2025 high school graduation exam.
According to statistics from Lao Dong, up to now, more than 60 universities nationwide have announced expected enrollment information.
