Before taking office at the Department of Performing Arts, People's Artist Xuan Bac was Director of the Vietnam National Drama Theater.
According to the theater's personnel organization model, there is currently only one deputy director in charge of administration, Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu.
Over the years, under the "steering" of People's Artist Xuan Bac, the Vietnam Drama Theater has had many programs, many activities, many plays with a diverse and rich repertoire. The theater organizes tours, calls for many socialized capital sources to have money to regularly stage plays, as well as strengthen the development of cooperation programs...
In a conversation with Lao Dong reporter about the stage and the journey to help the Vietnam Drama Theater overcome difficulties when the stage had no audience, People's Artist Xuan Bac confided that he has tried hard to find many directions and cooperate with many parties, so that the stage can return to its rightful position, as it once had in its golden age.
“I do many different jobs, from TV MC, actor, comedy skits... But my greatest passion is for the stage. Only when standing on stage can I fully feel the happiness of the acting profession. No matter where we go or what we do, we will always come back crying and laughing under the stage lights. The stage is like a magic power. When I bring plays like Benh si, Bao to Truong Son to perform in the provinces... seeing the audience crying and laughing with the artists, I am extremely moved. I will always remember when performing Bao to Truong Son in Ha Tinh, an old man kept holding my hand, tears welling up in his eyes, unable to speak because of emotion. Those memories are priceless to me personally” - People's Artist Xuan Bac shared when he was in the position of Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater.
People's Artist Xuan Bac was appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the position of Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater from 2021.
From November 1, 2024, when People's Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac transfers to the Department of Performing Arts, the position of director at the Vietnam Drama Theater will be appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the near future.
Currently, Vietnam Drama National Theater will temporarily not have new personnel for the director position.
Vietnam Drama National Theater (formerly known as the Central Art Troupe) was established in 1952, in the Viet Bac resistance zone. Throughout its history, Vietnam Drama National Theater had a glorious and brilliant period with generations of outstanding artists of the theater industry.
Vietnam Drama National Theater is considered the "red big brother" of the Northern stage with its classic dramas and plays that have become its trademark.
In 2012, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism wanted to merge the Youth Theater with the Vietnam Drama Theater to form the Vietnam National Drama Theater. At that time, People's Artist Le Hung, Director of the Youth Theater, also held the position of Director of the Vietnam National Drama Theater. However, the plan to merge the two theaters did not receive consensus from the majority of artists, so it was temporarily suspended.
After People's Artist Le Hung retired, Mr. Nguyen The Vinh and the late People's Artist Anh Tu, who were both staff members of the Youth Theater, were successively appointed to the position of Director of the Vietnam National Drama Theater.
When People's Artist Anh Tu passed away, People's Artist Xuan Bac was Deputy Director and then appointed to the position of Director in 2021.
