Lao Dong Newspaper reporter had a conversation with BB Tran about the big turning point after participating in "Call Me by Fire".
BB Tran is a special case in "Call Me by Fire". When you accepted to participate in the program, did you think about the prospect of being able to make it to the finals and being loved by many viewers?
- Until now, "Call Me by Fire" is still like a dream of mine. I love singing and dancing but never thought I would stand on a big stage, or even the recent concert in front of a large audience. When I got to try my hand at a field that was not my forte, I felt like my dream had come true. When I was little, I wanted to be a singer. When I grew up, I knew I had no talent so I did not pursue a singing career but became a model and an actress. This year, I had the chance to stand on stage and sing, and I really appreciate that opportunity.
When participating in "Call Me by Fire", what did BB Tran receive in return? Was it a sympathetic look from the public, a better reputation, or an expanded scope of activities?
- I have new experiences. And that is the door that opened for me, for me to change many things. Before, I thought I was just in my comfort zone. But when I stepped into a wider place, I found that I could try to practice to do new things. It is not an exaggeration to say that I lived a new life.
BB Tran once shared that there was a time when he just stayed at home because he lost direction in his career. So, "Call Me by Fire" is the turning point in his career?
- Participating in "Call Me by Fire" gave me a new source of energy. Indeed, there was a time when I felt lost, not knowing where I was going, what I would do next. At that time, I just lay at home, waiting for the opportunity to come to me. When I received the invitation, I knew it was a great opportunity for me, there were many challenges waiting. I tried to learn subjects that I had never known before. I learned the violin and found it extremely difficult, to the point that I wanted to give up the first few days. When I was able to play the violin, I understood that with just effort, I could overcome my limits. I had the motivation to learn more things.

Participating in a playground with many professional singers and dancers, BB Tran still has his own uniqueness. How do you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses compared to the other 32 "talents"?
- I think my advantage is... being in a different profession. I am not a professional singer. Because I am in a different profession, if I make a mistake, the audience and other talented people can sympathize with me. That is lucky for me. Moreover, I can easily create surprises. If I change and try every day, the audience will see that. Talented singers also confided to me that I am more comfortable, and if I make a mistake, I will not be criticized. But they are singers, if they make a small mistake, they will feel guilty towards the audience.
As for the disadvantages, I think it's because I'm used to the theater stage, always having a script and just having to act according to the plan is enough. But on the singing stage, I have to remember the lyrics, remember the dance moves, remember where I stand, how I move, remember to interact with the audience. That's a challenge for me and I have to learn a lot from other "talents".
Many audiences are familiar with BB Tran's image with humorous jokes and surprising "dirty" plays on entertainment game shows. Some people also think that BB Tran came to "Call Me by Fire" to hang out?
- I was very serious when I joined the show. 3-4 months before filming, I calculated what I would do and what I needed to learn. Right after Tet, I signed up to learn violin and other subjects to prepare for my participation. If the audience thinks I joined the show just to "throw in some" or to have fun, that's not the case.
I know that some audiences think that I am just entertaining, so I try harder to change myself and make more breakthroughs. Some people think that I will perform a very humorous act on the show, bringing laughter. I want to do a stage that will surprise everyone.
BB Tran always makes an impression when playing game shows, taking the spotlight because of his ability to play tricks and tricks, and is also nicknamed "the dirty player". What is his true self?
- If I were to put my real self on screen, it would be boring. Actually, I like quiet, stillness, and a space that brings a sense of peace. I work in the entertainment industry, which requires me to be energetic, but I only put that energy on stage. Standing in front of the audience, I am motivated to be active and radiate strong energy. When I am at home, I am a completely different person. When I come home after finishing work, I no longer have that energy, I just hang around watching movies and relaxing.
Many times, BB Tran shared that he cannot give up the halo. So how do you define halo and fame?
- I always believe that when pursuing an artistic career, you have to go all the way. Many people are like me, there will be a period of silence, not knowing what to do. When you are too familiar with the job, you suddenly feel stuck, not knowing what to do to be more innovative. I will find new sources of energy to change myself and also have more motivation to try new things. I don't dare to talk about the halo, I simply think that I will contribute as long as I can.
During the period when I was less active, I wondered why many people were afraid of that state. Afraid of being stuck, afraid of being stressed or lost. Looking back at the time when I was just staying at home, I found it very necessary. I had time to reflect, to review what I lacked, what I could do, what I needed to learn.
When I went through everything, I cherished that time because I learned many things from the silence and slowing down. I hope everyone is not afraid of that feeling of being lost and stuck. I believe that with sadness, we will know happiness and joy. Emotions in life are like spices, dishes must have many spices to be interesting and diverse.
From a comedian to a performing singer and band member, how did BB Tran prepare for this change to be able to go the long way?
- At first, I was hesitant because I didn't know what I would do when I joined the band. I learned and trained in the program "Call Me by Fire". I applied those experiences and will continue to learn and practice to improve my skills.
I feel lucky to be a part of B.O.F. I have to experience and try more before I can answer the question of whether I can go the long way with singing or not.
