Characteristics of concert films
In 2025, in addition to regular film projects in the horror, action... genres, musicals began to flourish. Vietnamese cinemas welcome 3 concert films (or music documentaries). The latest is the movie Anh trai say hi: The villain creates a hero released from February 26.
In March 2025, "Vietnamese concert film: We are Vietnamese" by singer Hoang Thuy Linh and her crew will be released. The program Call Me by Fire also said that in 2025, the unit will introduce a concert film but has not revealed the specific time.
The music genre is not too new in Vietnam, but in a short time, it was expected that there would be 3 films released at the same time, so it attracted the attention of the audience.
In reality, in the past 5 years, only a few music documentaries have been made, including projects by My Tam and Son Tung M-TP, while in 2025, there will be 3 consecutive films, showing that the performance industry has not only recovered but is also vibrant, dragging in other projects such as fan meetings and concert films.
Potential but still full of challenges
For many years, the form of making concert films for artists has been applied by major entertainment companies around the world. This not only helps increase the reputation of artists but also an opportunity for them to connect with the audience, heating up their names.
For example, in the Korean entertainment industry, famous music groups such as BTS and Blackpink have had many documentaries released in theaters and have been shown in Vietnam such as *Blackpink world tour Born Pink in cinemas*, *Blackpink: The Movie * *BTS: yet to come in cinemas *...
Making concert films helps producers take advantage of the large audience of fans. This is also a form of promotion for artists. However, in general, music videos still face many significant challenges. Most of them come from content and audience segment.
Typically, with My Tam or Son Tung M-TP's previous projects, they only focused mainly on behind-the-scenes with a few performances on stage. This content is mostly just for fans to enjoy. However, because the content lacks many necessary highlights, it is very difficult for artists to reach other audiences.
In addition, often music videos and limited screenings, only a few hundred screenings per day, such a narrowing also reduces film revenue and audience reach.
