The passing of musician Nguyen Vu (1944 - 2025), author of the famous song "Sad City Song", left great regret in the hearts of music-loving audiences. Before passing away at the age of 81, he was one of the musicians who made a strong impression on the Vietnamese modern music scene.
His real name is Nguyen Tuan Khanh, he was born in 1944 in Hanoi, then moved to Da Lat with his family to live. Early showing his talent, Nguyen Vu, at the age of 12, won first prize in a children's singing competition from Da Lat Radio. He played many musical instruments such as guitar, harmonica, piano proficiently and soon entered the path of composition.
The debut song "A Seabird" (1965) marks the appearance of a new talent. Since the late 1960s, he has begun to attract public attention with a series of songs with the word "cuoi" in the titles: "Loi dan em", "Nh nhau cuoi dan", "Bao dan chou tinh". These songs contain private confidences but touch the hearts of many music lovers with their passionate melodies and lyrical lyrics.
The peak of his career was in October 1972, when he wrote "Sad verses". Inspired by childhood memories near Con Ga Church (Da Lat) and the familiar melody of "The Last Night of thelicopper", the song quickly became a "phenomenon" during Christmas that year. Thai Chau was the first singer to perform, and theo theo theo theo theo phiong and many other singers contributed to making the song an immortal song.
In addition to "Sad ghiases", Nguyen Vu also left many popular songs such as "Huyen ve mua", "Loi ta tinh", " Quan nua khuat". His music often contains romantic elements, a bit nostalgic, close but still has artistic depth.
After 1975, he worked at the 22nd Central Pharmaceutical Enterprise, but his passion for music never cooled down. Since the 1990s, he has opened a music class at his private home in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, training many generations of students. Not only teaching knowledge, musician Nguyen Vu is also remembered for his humble personality, always being close and tolerant with students and colleagues.
Although he is at an early age, musician Nguyen Vu still maintains a youthful and lively demeanor. He often participates in interacting with fans, sharing memories associated with "Sad bulls" and sometimes humorously "mentitiously" the singer's incorrect lyrics.
With more than half a century of dedication, musician Nguyen Vu left a valuable musical heritage, contributing to enriching the treasure trove of Vietnamese lyrical songs. His passing was a great loss, but the melodies he left behind will certainly live on in the hearts of music-loving audiences.
