Born into a family with artistic traditions, comedian Van Son (real name Duong Thanh Son, born in 1961) is not only known as a comedian but also as the founder of Van Son Center.
However, besides his career, the story of the family relationship between him and the late artist Nguyen Chanh Tin also attracted many viewers' attention.
Sharing with reporters, Van Son affirmed that Nguyen Chanh Tin is his maternal uncle. The reason stems from the blood relationship in the family: Van Son's mother is the second sister, and Nguyen Chanh Tin is the youngest, so in terms of role, he calls this famous actor "the youngest uncle".
Van Son added: "I idolize my uncle and his film career. When he was famous on screen, few could surpass him. His roles are always remembered and learned by me.
What is special is that although they are uncle - niece, the age gap between the two is not too large. Artist Nguyen Chanh Tin was born in 1952, only 9 years older than Van Son. This closeness has made Van Son's childhood memories associated with the image of his talented uncle. He recounted that when he was in 12th grade at Mac Dinh Chi School, Nguyen Chanh Tin stood out in cultural activities and soon won an award. From then on, the male artist began to step into the path of singing and cinema.
For Van Son, the image of his uncle is not only a relative but also a source of artistic inspiration in his early life. When he was only about 11 years old, he nurtured the dream of becoming a singer like Nguyen Chanh Tin - to stand on stage, sing and act in movies. To pursue his passion, Van Son studied with famous musicians, including musician Y Van, and was formally trained to the point of being able to read musical notes proficiently.
However, his career path turned to a different direction. Although entering the troupe at the age of 16 with a dream of singing, Van Son's first job on stage was as a dancer - a field he had never been trained before. Later, he continued to form a music group, performing youth music in the late 1970s, but in the end still could not pursue the singing career as desired.
That turning point brought Van Son to comedy, where he found a suitable position and gradually built his name.
Becoming a comedian loved by the audience, he also successfully built Van Son Center - a place that gathers many famous artists and contributes to the development of the overseas entertainment market. A stable career and current prosperous life are considered another "fate" that he has achieved, although he did not reach his childhood singing dream.
In addition to Nguyen Chanh Tin, Van Son also has a relative relationship with director - producer Charlie Nguyen and actor - martial artist Johnny Tri Nguyen. These connections show that his family has a deep artistic tradition, spanning from cinema to theater.
