On February 17, information from the People's Committee of Dong Nai province said that it is expected that in March 2025, a ceremony will be held to announce the decision to recognize the national treasure of the Long Giao pangolin statue at the Dong Nai Museum.
The expected participants include leaders of the Department of Cultural Heritage - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders of Dong Nai province, leaders of the Institute of Archaeology, the Southern Institute of Science and Society...
Previously, on December 31, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision No. 1712/QD-TTg to recognize national treasures (phase 13,).
Among the 33 national treasures that have been recognized, Dong Nai province has the Long Giao pangolin in 9th place.
The statue dates from around the 1st to the 2nd century and is currently kept by the Dong Nai Museum.
The Long Giao pangolin statue was discovered in 1985, at a depth of 40cm, at the same location as the Long Giao pangolin collection.
The statue weighs 2.65kg, cast from a variety of wax motifs, in a round statue line, in a standing, balanced position, made of brass.
This is an original, unique artifact, native, with a unique shape, the only copy discovered in Vietnam. In terms of historical and artistic value, the statue is the pinnacle of metal-making art in the early iron furniture period, demonstrating an important historical period - the early state period.
Dong Nai has 4 national treasures currently kept at Dong Nai Museum including: the Long Giao butterfly bronze statue, the Long Giao bronze statue collection, the Vishnu Binh Hoa god statue and the Binh Da stone instrument collection.
