After much debate before airing, the historical drama "Gia Nghiep" (42 episodes) is becoming the focus of attention on the Chinese screen. The work marking the collaboration between Duong Tu and Han Dong Quan is commented to have a notable "comeback" when continuously recording positive achievements after just one night of broadcasting.
Airing from May 17th, "Gia nghiep" tells the story of Ly Trinh - a girl born into a famous squid making family during the Ming Dynasty but having to stand up to shoulder the burden after her family encountered an upheaval. Not following the familiar motif of power or reverse love of historical films, the work chooses to exploit Huy Chau's squid making profession along with the journey of preserving traditional heritage through many generations.
Previously, many viewers thought that "Gia Nghiep" was difficult to compete with "Vu Lam Linh" by Duong Duong - a highly invested martial arts film with an overwhelming number of previews. However, the developments after broadcasting went in a completely different direction.
According to data shared by the distributor, "Gia Nghiep" opened with a rating of about 0.6% but quickly increased to a peak of 1.58% after only 30 minutes of broadcasting. The average rating of the first episode reached 1.19%, helping the film quickly enter the leading group of the time frame.
On the online platform in China, the film also continuously increased in heat. From the initial 3,000 heat points mark, "Gia Nghiep" quickly surpassed the 7,000 mark on the morning of May 18. In Vietnam, the film broadcast on VieON also received many positive reviews from audiences. The work also achieved more than 78 million heat points and topped the TV drama discussion chart. Duong Tu's character Ly Trinh also rose to the top position in terms of audience interest.
However, "Gia nghiệp" still faces competitive pressure from Lưu Hạo Tồn's "Instinct" - a film that is recording a rating exceeding the 3% mark. However, observers assess the current achievements of "Gia nghiệp" as a positive sign, especially with a work that has a dramatic color and a traditional cultural theme that is considered quite picky about viewers.
One of the points that helps "Gia Nghiep" create sympathy is the slow pace of storytelling and focus on family life instead of chaotic drama details. The film scores points thanks to its gentle ancient atmosphere, the story of inheritance and the spirit of preserving traditional crafts.
The acting of the cast also received many positive feedbacks. Duong Tu was praised for restrained her familiar acting style to build a strong but emotional image of Ly Trinh. Meanwhile, Han Dong Quan attracted attention thanks to his calm demeanor and natural reactions to his co-star.
In addition to the content, the film's visuals are also highly appreciated when filming in famous ancient towns such as Tay De and Hoanh Thon at the foot of Hoang Son. The scenes of white walls, black tiled roofs and foggy lakes bring a deep watery feeling, contributing to creating a unique color for the film.
