The movie "Mad concrete dreams" (Vietnamese title: Giấc mộng bê tông) aired its first 2 episodes last weekend with viewership ratings of 4.1% and 4.5%, according to Nielsen Korea. In addition, the work "dominates" online movie charts: topping Wavve's charts, holding the number 1 position in total viewing time, showing its popularity.
The film tells the story of Ki Soo Jong (Ha Jung Woo) - the building owner who is facing financial difficulties due to the pressure of rent and increasing loan interest rates. His only hope is to keep his assets until the project is redeveloped, but that plan begins to collapse when the mysterious financial company - Real Capital appears.
After receiving Soo Jong's debt, the company threatened to confiscate the building if he did not pay the debt. Conversely, if Soo Jong agreed to the building handover agreement, he would receive a sum of money. However, with the debt he is bearing after buying the house, the amount of money received is insignificant.
As a result, Soo Jong refuses the agreement, and tells the story to Kim Kyun (Kim Nam Gil) - his wife's younger brother, who is also a police officer. During the investigation into Real Capital and missing people related to the building that this company is building, Kim Kyun discovers the secret. However, soon after, he has an accident and dies.
Korean media assessed that the attraction of "Concrete Dream" is the combination of thrill with black comedy, along with the realistic acting of the cast. In episode 1, viewers are drawn into a spiral of tension when Soo Jong is involved in a fake kidnapping plot with his close friend Min Hwal Seong (Kim Jun Han).
Episode 2 pushes the story to a climax when Hwal Seong tries to extort 3 billion won from his mother-in-law after kidnapping his own wife - Jeon Yi Kyung (Krystal). However, the plan goes out of control when his mother-in-law refuses to negotiate and reports the incident to the police.
The episode ends with a chaotic scene, when Hwal Seong tries to reveal to Soo Jong that he is being followed by the police but fails. During the struggle, an accident occurs, and Soo Jong flees like a real criminal.
In the introduction to episode 3, the film's diễn biến continues to be more tense when Soo Jong becomes the main suspect in the eyes of both police and his wife - Kim Sun (Im Soo Jung).
This is considered a major disadvantage, and also affects his family's happiness, when his wife had previously consulted with a marriage lawyer, and learned that he had spent all the savings they both intended to use for their daughter to study abroad.
In fact, real estate is a topic that has received attention, not only from Korean audiences but also in Asian countries. Currently, owning a private real estate is the aspiration of many people.
Ha Jung Woo himself, although he once made a profit after selling a building, realized that being a homeowner does not mean a comfortable or financially stable life. "I also made a mistake when I lacked real estate knowledge. That's why I sympathize with Soo Jong's story.
According to the actor, from the story of ambition to the desperate efforts of the male lead, he hopes viewers can foresee the risks of real estate speculation. For him, buying real estate is great, but it is important to manage that asset.
