Set in Gangnam District (Seoul, Korea), Project Y tells the bold ambition of Mi Seon ( Han So Hee) and Do Kyung (Jeon Jong Seo) - two friends of the same age who planned to steal 8 billion won (about 5.44 million USD) worth of gold bars and disappear without a trace.
The work marks the first collaboration between Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo. Not only the characters in the film but in real life, both are the same age, so their understanding when playing the role of best friends received a lot of attention.
According to Han So Hee, the filming process went very smoothly. She and her co-star discussed each scene in detail before filming, which helped the characters bond.
"Do Kyung's charm and strength contrast with Jeon Jong Seo's slim, pure white appearance in real life, making her role impressive.
Although there are aspects of Do Kyung's personality that I should not follow, his straightforward personality is what impressed me. On set, Jong Seo's interest in scenes inspired me, helping me enjoy the process of working.
Meanwhile, Jeon Jong Seo is also extremely excited to act in a film with his peers. Taking on the role of Do Kyung - a girl who dares to take risks, living with the spirit of "life is a gamble" is not too big a challenge for her.
However, to perform well the action scenes, the actress practiced hard, focusing on the work in the hope that the film would be successful in grasping many different aspects of the two main characters.
Regarding the title of the film, director Lee Hwan said, Project Y sounds grand, but Y here is an abbreviation of many words. It is young (young person), youth (youth), it can also be yum ( delicious).
I want the audience to reflect from my own perspective and for older viewers, they can recall the aspirations of youth. The title is abstract, but I hope each person will complete their own Y after watching the film - the director said.
The movie Project Y is scheduled to hit theaters on January 21, 2026 in Korea. The release schedule in Vietnam has not been announced yet.
