NewJeans' controversial actions during Danielle's absence

DI PY |

Representatives of the girl group NewJeans have just announced the extension of the official fan club's operating time, but it has caused controversy.

According to an announcement from NewJeans, all members who own the "Bunnies Membership" package still valid until 11 am on March 25 (Korean time) will be automatically extended for another 365 days. The new time will be added directly to the remaining period, and users can check on the Weverse platform from 12 am on the same day.

Notably, the extension is applied completely automatically, users do not need to perform any additional operations. Meanwhile, new registrants will not be eligible for this incentive and will still apply a one-year period as usual.

A management representative said that this move is to show gratitude for the companionship of global fans over the past time, and at the same time help them continue to access exclusive rights such as backstage content, private events and other special offers.

However, the announcement quickly sparked much debate in the fan community. A part of fans expressed satisfaction with the extended usage time, considering this an act of respect from the company.

Conversely, many opinions believe that extending the fan club at the present time is not really appropriate. The reason stems from scandals related to member Danielle (she was removed from the group by her management company), causing the group's lineup to be incomplete.

On forums, many comments said that "NewJeans are no longer complete without members" or requested the company to clarify Danielle's situation before making decisions related to the fan community. Others even questioned the meaning of the extension when the group's future activities are still unclear.

In addition, the management also noted that if users cancel or delete an account after it has been renewed, the benefits will not be restored. This makes some fans consider carefully before making decisions related to personal accounts.
