The role of Commander Thanh is inspired by a real character. "Red rain" revolves around the battle to protect Quang Tri ancient citadel in 1972,
Actor Hieu Nguyen said that when he heard that the People's Army Cinema was casting the film Red Rain in Ho Chi Minh City about the topic of war, he came to participate and wanted to be cast at all costs.
"I have to go to the casting at all costs, whether I have a big or small role is not important. I am very happy to be present and work with the project" - Hieu Nguyen said.
Two days before the casting of "Red Rain", Hieu Nguyen had a fever. During the casting, director Dang Thai Huyen and the entire crew saw his eyes red and continuously flowing tears, so they only allowed the actor to cast important scenes.
This is the first time Hieu Nguyen has worked with a female director. In the film "Red Rain", Commander Thanh is a soldier with extensive experience in the battlefield. He received orders to Quang Tri to command the battle to protect the ancient citadel when the war escalated.
To prepare for this role, Hieu Nguyen spent nearly a month of training at Cu Chi, living and working as a true soldier.

Hieu Nguyen and his "teams" wake up at 5am, practice and perform tasks every day. Difficult experiences such as running out of rice, losing water while bathing, running to other rooms to ask for a bath... become memorable memories.
To transform into a battle commander, Hieu Nguyen learned to disassemble and fire many different types of guns such as tournaments, AK47, B41 and M4. He spent many days practicing with the " ma ma ma" to get the most authentic experience when standing in front of the camera. He believes that this will be an experience where it is difficult to have a second chance in life.
Hieu Nguyen said he felt lucky and honored to have the opportunity to transform into the character of the commander in charge of protecting the ancient citadel of Quang Tri.
When I arrived in Quang Tri, I felt the sacredness and heroism here. I cried when I went to Truong Son cemetery, Duong 9 cemetery, respecting the sacrifice of soldiers from all over the country who died in Quang Tri, on Thach Han river, in the ancient citadel, Hieu Nguyen shared more.
Hieu Nguyen recounted a scene: During filming, the weather dropped to 9-12 degrees Celsius, the brothers had to wade in the basement, the rain was so crowded that they could not bear to listen. Although it was cold and the teeth were ringing, we felt happy.
The actor said that Red Rain is a rare movie that builds a new setting of dozens of hectares, with the participation of many military equipment such as tanks, heavy weapons, etc. The film has many emotional scenes such as special forces soldiers swimming all night in water with a cold of 9-12 degrees Celsius, or the scene of hundreds of soldiers fighting, recreating the battle to protect the ancient citadel of Quang Tri in 1972...
The feature film "Red Rain" was invested heavily by the People's Army Cinema, with a budget of about 50-60 billion VND.
Director Dang Thai Huyen said that the film is a song sung through images, a burning incense to express gratitude and commemorate the generations who have contributed their youth to the country. The film carries the sound of love, sacred comradeship, a stubborn battle and the desire for peace of the Vietnamese army and people.
"Red Rain" is scheduled to hit theaters on August 22.
