Hue implements a project to dismantle 40 military structures in the Citadel and relics, contributing to restoring the original space to the heritage.

Degraded works, no longer of national defense value

According to records, the works were built by the US military in the period 1957 - 1975 to serve the war, mainly with reinforced concrete.

After many years of not being maintained and repaired, the works have seriously deteriorated with cracked and peeling walls, subsided foundations, broken roofs, no longer ensuring safety and no longer of national defense value.

The Military Command (CHQS) of Hue City said that these works are no longer in the defense posture plan of Military Region 4. The dismantling is to serve the Project to Preserve, restore and embellish the Hue Citadel system, contributing to restoring the landscape, promoting the value of the Hue Ancient Citadel Relic Complex and promoting tourism and socio-economic development.

The deployed items include demolishing 31 structures, including 25 bunkers, 3 bunkers, 2 watchtowers and 1 observation point combined with an air defense battlefield.

In addition to 31 combat structures in Hue Citadel, the project also dismantles 9 more military structures in Tran Hai Thanh and the Van Mieu - Vo Mieu area, bringing the total number of dismantled structures to 40.

The project has a total investment of 367.7 billion VND. The dismantling of military structures is undertaken by the Hue City Military Command.

Mobilizing 50 cadres and soldiers of engineering

According to the plan, the construction time will last 60 days, from July 30 to September 30, 2026.

Hue City Military Command mobilized about 50 officers and soldiers of engineering to directly construct. The command, technical and construction teams all have experience in implementing many similar military projects.

To ensure safety for the relic, dismantling is carried out according to the principle of dismantling to where, collecting and transporting waste to that place.

Reinforced concrete items will be dismantled with chisels mounted on excavators combined with manual methods, drills, welding machines and specialized scaffolding systems. Structures are lowered slowly, absolutely without collapsing or breaking the foundation of the wall to avoid affecting surrounding relic items.

All materials after demolition are sorted, gathered and transported out of the construction site. Waste trucks must cover tarpaulins and spray tires before leaving the construction site to ensure environmental sanitation.

During the construction process, the unit also arranged dust covers, watered to reduce dust spread, and organized guard forces to ensure traffic safety.

According to the Hue City Military Command, most of the projects are located in the Thuong Thanh area, about 200m from residential areas, so construction will not affect people's houses.

Hue City Military Command affirmed that, with experience in constructing many specialized national defense projects and a team of cadres and soldiers with high expertise and full equipment, the unit is committed to completing the dismantling on schedule, ensuring safety, technology, environmental sanitation and handing over the site according to plan to serve the conservation and restoration of Hue Citadel.
