The romantic comedy The Divorce Insurance tells the story of Noh Ki Jun (Lee Dong Wook) - a genie insurance expert in the creative product development team at Plus Insurance.
After going through 3 divorces and being exhausted both financially and mentally, Noh Ki Jun considered the increasing divorce rate as a sudden disaster - and decided to sign a divorce insurance contract.
Talking about the new project, the actor was excited that this is his return to the romantic comedy genre. My previous works were mostly fantasy, with some elements of intense characters.
After 7-8 years of taking a break from romantic comedies, this time I want to do a project that people can watch comfortably. I want to show the cuteness of Ki Jun - an insurance expert who is exhausted financially and mentally after 3 divorces.
Along with that, my interaction with actors Lee Kwang Soo, Lee Da Hee and Lee Joo Bin was really interesting, promising to bring joy to the audience.
While Lee Dong Wook was excited about the work, drawn by the unique concept of divorce insurance and the director's witty lines, director Lee Won Suk - who is famous for the films "crab boy art" (2013), "Goodbye to your husband" (2023) was worried when making his first TV series project.
To be honest, I was not confident because I thought making a drama would be very difficult, and I refused all invitations. But after reading the script for the first episode of this project, I agreed to do it. The reason is because the plot is unique and has an attractive worldview.
The film does not completely focus on divorces. It is a story about people who create their own world instead of integrating into the world around them. Failure in love is also a new beginning. It is about how all decisions and happiness originate from themselves.
In terms of his director's point of view, Lee Won Suk wants to express more exaggeratedly, different from reality. I wanted to create a sense of conflict by placing real-life stories and characters in the setting like a fairy tale. I also want to depict the world around the characters in a more exaggerated way.
The movie The Divorce Insurance is scheduled to premiere on the evening of March 31.
