Mr. Nguyen Van Loc - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province - said that the smoke-free tourism model is being implemented to strengthen the implementation of regulations on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco; and at the same time raise awareness of people, businesses and tourists about the benefits of a smoke-free environment.
According to Mr. Loc, in the immediate future, the model will be piloted in 10 tourist areas, attractions, accommodation establishments and restaurants in the province. Participating units will implement many synchronous solutions such as installing no-smoking signs, arranging no-smoking areas, and strengthening propaganda for tourists and staff about the harmful effects of tobacco.
In addition, propaganda work is also promoted through many forms such as newspapers, social networks, banners, leaflets..., especially activities in response to World No Tobacco Day (May 31) and National No Tobacco Week every year.
The implementation of the smoke-free tourism model is expected to raise awareness of the community and businesses, gradually forming civilized behavior habits in the tourist space.
At MerPerle Dalat Hotel (Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat), the smoke-free hotel model has been implemented in recent times and received many positive feedbacks from tourists. In 2025, this is the only 5-star hotel in Lam Dong to be honored in the ranking of typical smoke-free hotels organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control Fund (Ministry of Health).
Mr. Doan Quoc Son - Director of MerPerle Dalat Hotel Branch - said that building a smoke-free environment helps improve service quality, especially suitable for international guests and families with young children.
In the early days, changing the habits of a part of customers was still difficult, but when the benefits were clearly explained, the majority of tourists agreed and cooperated. The hotel has implemented many measures such as placing signs in public areas, propagating to staff and tourists, and arranging areas appropriately according to regulations.
The smoke-free tourism model is a solution towards a green, clean, and friendly tourism environment; thereby raising the awareness of businesses, people and tourists in protecting community health, contributing to building a civilized, safe, and sustainable tourism image in Lam Dong.
According to Mr. Vo Thanh Huy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, in addition to piloting in some units, the provincial tourism industry will continue to mobilize businesses to participate, gradually expanding the model.
Building a smoke-free tourism environment is not only about signs and regulations, but also towards changing community awareness and habits, forming a civilized and modern tourism culture.
In the process of implementation, the proactive participation of tourism businesses plays an important role. Many hotels and resorts in the province have proactively built a smoke-free environment, creating a healthy resort space for tourists.
In the context of tourism towards green and sustainable criteria, models such as smoke-free hotels and tourist destinations become an important factor, contributing to improving the competitiveness of destinations.
In Lam Dong, the smoke-free tourism model is opening up a new approach in building a civilized, sustainable and safe tourism environment.
