Hanoi is accelerating the progress of a series of drainage and flood control projects to complete them in time before the 2026 rainy and storm season.
The rainy and storm season is approaching, the risk of flooding in the inner city of Hanoi continues to be an urgent problem to be solved. To handle widespread flooding, Hanoi City is implementing 12 emergency flood control projects. In which, Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Management Center (Hanoi Department of Construction) implements 3 projects, the Department of Agriculture and Environment implements 7 projects and 2 projects are implemented in the form of PPP (public-private partnership).
According to functional units, difficulties related to site clearance, sewer and underground cable systems... have basically been focused on being removed by Hanoi City. Currently, contractors are focusing manpower and equipment to accelerate construction progress according to the set plan.
According to the plan, in the second and third quarters of 2026, Hanoi must complete a series of urgent drainage and flood control projects to proactively respond to the rainy and storm season. Among them, two rainwater regulation underground tank projects at Hang Da market and the Duong bridge slope area are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.
Recorded at the Yen Nghia headwork complex project (Emergency drainage pumping station project in the west of the Capital), hundreds of officials, engineers, and workers along with machinery and equipment are focusing on construction at the construction site. With the launch of the "80 Days and Nights Campaign", the construction progress here is being pushed to the highest level.

In addition, the Thuy Phuong canal renovation project to replenish the Red River for the To Lich River and solve localized flooding in Resco, Ecohome, Diplomatic Corps, Tay Ho Tay, Ciputra and surrounding areas is also being urgently implemented. The project was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee with a total investment of more than 920 billion VND.
Up to now, the project has entered the construction acceleration phase. Representatives of the Project Management Board said that the canal section from Thuy Phuong to Pham Van Dong street is implementing many items such as pile driving, construction of service roads, concrete pouring of pile tops, digging of canal bed soil, constructing canal bottom beams, dredging, clamping bamboo piles and constructing box culverts.
Similarly, the culvert line from Hoang Minh Thao street and Vo Chi Cong street leading water to To Lich river is also being constructed with piles and piles, and excavating soil inside the line. Many sections of culverts have been installed and are in the process of completion.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - representative of the contractor for package No. 6 (Thuy Phuong head pumping station) said that this is a key and urgent project of Hanoi City. Immediately after receiving the task, the contractor mobilized manpower and equipment to deploy construction to ensure progress.
Also according to Mr. Thanh, the construction at Thuy Phuong head pumping station has many specific technical requirements, especially the installation of 4 pump units must carry out on-site concrete pouring. The structure of the project must ensure high durability, limiting vibration when the pumping station operates. Therefore, the construction process must be carefully calculated to both meet technical requirements and ensure progress.

Besides technical factors, throughout the implementation process, construction units must ensure environmental sanitation in the area.
On the morning of March 16, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Director of Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Management Center (Hanoi Department of Construction) said that the unit is determined to complete the main items before April 30, 2026.

According to Mr. Hung, the unit is directly implementing 3 out of a total of 12 flood control projects, serving the Thang Long Avenue, Resco, Ecohome, Diplomatic Corps, Tay Ho Tay, Ciputra and Hang Da market area. The main items are expected to be completed before April 30, and the above-ground completion work will continue to be completed in May 2026.
Representatives of the Hanoi Department of Construction said that, according to the plan, flood prevention items will be completed before April 30, 2026. By June 30, 2026, the project will complete the canal landscape, restore the surface of Hoang Minh Thao street and complete the box culvert along Vo Chi Cong street to officially replenish water for the To Lich River.
