On the morning of March 14, in Chau Doc City, An Giang Province held a press conference on the ceremony to receive the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Certificate recognized by UNESCO for the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of An Giang Province; Mr. Lam Quang Thi - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of the Chau Doc City Party Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hiep - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of An Giang Province chaired the press conference.
The ceremony to receive the UNESCO recognition of the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the opening ceremony of the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival in 2025 was held with a scale of about 2,000 delegates, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on March 19, at Sam Mountain National Tourist Area (Nui Sam Ward, Chau Doc City). The ceremony was staged with many special art programs combined with low-altitude fireworks activities.
Before the opening ceremony, delegates held an incense offering ceremony at Ngoc Hau Tomb, Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Temple... Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huong emphasized: "Organizing a UNESCO- certified welcoming ceremony and opening the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival aims to honor, propagate and widely promote the heritage values of An Giang to a large number of tourists from near and far".
An Giang province hopes that the development of a festival program with many unique and magnificent contents will contribute to raising awareness of the domestic and international communities about the cultural, historical and significance of the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival; enhancing the responsibility of all levels, sectors and localities in preserving and promoting the value of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Promoting the historical and cultural values of An Giang land and people, affirming the rich cultural identity of the community of 4 ethnic groups that have lived together for many generations: Kinh, Hoa, Cham, Khmer... promoting sustainable tourism development.
On this occasion, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Khanh Hiep presented a summary of the process of building a dossier to submit to UNESCO for the list of "Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival" in the list of Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
