Last Summer tells the story of Baek Do Ha (Lee Jae Wook) - who came to the US after his parents divorced and only returned to Korea during the summer vacation to visit his father and twin brother Baek Do Yeong (Lee Jae Wook plays the two roles).
Do Ha's summer days, although only 21 days old, left many emotions when meeting childhood friend Song Ha Gyeong (Choi Sung Eun). But after an incident, the two gradually became distant.
Last Summer is Lee Jae Wooks latest project after Golden Nuot (aired in May this year). Taking on 2 roles in a work for the first time, the actor faced a lot of pressure.
It was a challenge for me to express separate personalities in characters with similar appearances. With Do Ha, I focus on emotional gestures.
For Do Yeong, I portray a more calm and emotional character. Seeing the final version of the film, I was whisperingly satisfied because the differences were expressed very well" - Lee Jae Wook shared.
Meanwhile, director Min Yeon Hong said that his goal is to create two twin brothers who look similar but are moderately different.
For the director, Last Summer is a story about people whose fates are together through the summers, to know the pain and help each other heal.
It was a coincidence that we told a story in the summer in mid-winter. I hope the audience will feel the new warmth through the film, even in the cold season.
The characters approach the problem in unpredictable ways, so this is an interesting, challenging journey to pursue their choices. Instead of making viewers feel overwhelmed by shocks or unexpected details, Last Summer will bring a subtle warmth - the director said.
Lee Jae Wook himself also emphasized that Last Summer is a drama about time and human maturity, while Choi Sung Eun hopes that the audience will feel the flavor of summer and find comfort and strength in the story.
Last Summer is 12 episodes long, scheduled to premiere on November 1.
