Ghost is a horror movie that attracts audiences
It can be said that "Ma da" is a rare horror film on Vietnamese screens that is having quite good starting sales.
In less than 2 days, the film has nearly reached the 20 billion VND mark (as of the evening of August 16, according to Box Office Vietnam).
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, on August 16 alone, the film brought in more than 10 billion VND with more than 131 thousand tickets sold out of a total of 3,500 screenings.
The work's achievements far outstrip many other competitors such as "Handsome Looks Wrong" (3 billion VND), "Conan" (1.3 billion VND)...
Meanwhile, the blockbuster movie "Space Monsters: Romulus" earned less than 1 billion VND on August 16.
With a promising opening performance, the movie "Ma da" is expected to continue leading Vietnamese box office revenue.
According to film experts, after the weekend (August 17), the film could surpass the 30 billion VND mark and become a Vietnamese horror film with the highest opening day revenue of all time.
"Ma da" is controversial but why is it still causing a fever?
Until now, Vietnamese horror films have often had no place at the domestic box office. Up to now, there is only one Vietnamese horror movie that has exceeded the 100 billion VND mark, "Devil Dog".
Therefore, the fact that the movie "Ma da" is making a breakthrough in terms of revenue makes many Vietnamese filmmakers, especially in the horror genre, excited.
However, the quality of the film is controversial. On social networks, some viewers rated the film as having boring content. The scares are also dated.
However, the film still attracts audiences because of many factors such as: The film takes the theme of the legend of unjust river spirits - ghost skin to bring it to the big screen - a quite bold direction that attracts the audience's attention.
Furthermore, the film marks the return of Viet Huong and Thanh Loc - two stars who are considered quite good ticket sellers.
Actress Viet Huong's transformation into the woman who recovered the body also received many compliments.
She shared with Lao Dong Newspaper that she had to dye her skin 6 times and her feet were eaten by alum when wading in mud and rivers to film.
One thing that makes the movie "Ma da" have good sales is that the work is quite advantageous as it does not have to compete with other domestic films in theaters.
Previous international blockbusters such as Conan, Deadpool & Wolverine also cooled down deeply and no longer retained their appeal to the audience.
The release of the movie "Ma da" at this time is considered a "golden spot" to attract audiences to theaters.
