Within the framework of the 29th Busan International Film Festival in 2024, on the afternoon of October 6, the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) coordinated with the People's Committee of Da Nang City and localities to organize a workshop to introduce the Da Nang Asian Film Festival and the filmmaking environment in some localities of Vietnam in Busan, Korea.
The Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) introduction workshop attracted a large number of festival delegates to attend.
The Da Nang Asian Film Festival is still young, but in the past two years it has gradually attracted film producers from the Asian region. Many works of artistic value have participated in the festival in the last two editions, contributing to gradually building the brand for the festival, achieving initial successes, contributing to diversifying and enriching Da Nang's cultural activities in the direction of building an event city.
The workshop also focused on introducing the filmmaking environment in some localities, mentioning the favorable environment in localities such as Da Nang, Phu Yen, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh and other localities. Some delegates also mentioned some difficulties that need to be improved for the localities.
Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, introduced the Da Nang Asian Film Festival and especially the 3rd festival in 2025 which will take place in Da Nang from June 29 to July 5, 2025.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that with the orientation of building a "City of events and festivals", the Da Nang Asian Film Festival has been expected by the city to become a brand event of the city, parallel to the International Fireworks Festival which has been held for 12 times. This will be one of the highlight activities in promoting the city's cultural industry, especially cinema.Da Nang hopes that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival will be a bridge for domestic and foreign filmmakers, directors, actors, and audiences to exchange, learn, and cooperate in cinema. At the same time, it is a good opportunity for Da Nang city's cinema to approach the cinema of Asian and world countries.
Regarding the creation of a filmmaking environment in the city, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi added that with famous landscapes such as Ngu Hanh Son, beaches, Ba Na Hills..., Da Nang is considered a place with great attraction for filming activities, using the setting for domestic and foreign film production projects.
In recent times, Da Nang city has taken measures to support and create favorable conditions to attract film crews and large producers to choose Da Nang as a filming location such as: simplifying administrative procedures, providing financial support through free entrance tickets to relics and scenic spots, incentives and discounts on accommodation and food services for film crews, supporting promotion on the city's information channels, etc.
Currently, the city supports the promotion of the Film Studio project when it has been included in the project list in the Da Nang City Planning until 2050.
In the coming time, the city will also develop a policy to support and promote attracting film crews in a more synchronous, effective and powerful manner; continue to mobilize local businesses, especially accommodation and culinary establishments, tourist areas and spots to contribute to creating a mutually beneficial mechanism and some special incentive mechanisms for film producers.
This workshop is organized as a companion event of the Busan International Film Festival BIFF.This year, BIFF takes place from October 2 to 11, 2025, attracting 225 films from more than 63 countries and territories.
