Set in the Joseon period, the romance film “Check in Hanyang” (Yongcheonlu Inn) tells the story of young men who become “interns” at Yongcheonlu, Joseon’s largest inn.
The main characters of the film are Lee Eun Ho (Bae In Hyuk) - a prince who is secretly hiding his identity and Hong Deok Soo (Kim Ji Eun) - a woman who disguises herself as a man to join Yongcheonlu.
As Kim Ji Eun’s latest project after the romantic comedy “Mother’s Friend’s Son” (co-starring Jung Hae In and Jung So Min), the actress expressed her excitement, especially since this is her first historical drama. The setting of a woman disguised as a man was also appealing, attracting her to participate.
“I have always wanted to challenge myself with the historical drama genre. I was nervous, but I relied a lot on my seniors and colleagues on set. Thanks to this drama, I realized that there are many beautiful places in Korea.”
According to the actress, the image of women disguised as men is not too strange to the audience.
Previously, Park Min Young and Park Eun Bin were loved and successful with similar images in the movies "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" and "Love at First Sight".
Kim Ji Eun admitted that when taking on this role, she would face many comparisons.
“I definitely felt pressured because Park Min Young and Park Eun Bin had such great performances.
I asked myself, “How can I overcome this?” and decided to make the role more interesting. I prepared a lot to make sure that the audience would not feel uncomfortable or interrupted while watching the film.
“It’s all for one reason, which is that through this drama, I want to show everyone that Kim Ji Eun can act out many different genres. I think ‘Check in Hanyang’ will be a new challenge and a step forward in my growth process,” she said.
Regarding the role of Hong Deok Soo, the Korean star revealed that she is an energetic, bold and courageous girl. In the film, Deok Soo secretly goes to Yongcheonlu to discover the truth about her father's death. Although she faces many difficulties after her father's death, she always finds a new direction for herself.
“Deok Soo is a character who doesn’t show it even though she’s going through a difficult time. Instead, she overcomes her difficulties cheerfully and bravely. I find that aspect of the character great. I’m quite brave myself, but I think Deok Soo is braver and more courageous than me.”
“Check in Hanyang” will officially premiere on the evening of December 21.
