Vietnamese artists pay a heavy price for music products with vulgar lyrics and controversial images

Many Vietnamese artists have had to remove or hide their music products after facing reactions from audiences or management agencies.

In recent years, along with the development of digital platforms, artists have more opportunities to bring products to the public. However, the rapid spread also means that songs and MVs easily become the focus of debate if they contain sensitive content or go against cultural standards.

In August 2026, rapper MCK attracted attention when releasing the album "HVL". Some songs in the album were reacted to by audiences for containing many vulgar and sensitive words.

After public controversy and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports invited this male rapper to work, MCK removed the entire album from online music platforms.

Previously, in April 2026, Jun Pham also proactively removed the MV Truth Or Dare after the product caused controversy because many images were considered suggestive and offensive.

In parallel with that, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports intervened to verify the content and images of this MV. The crew then announced the suspension of product release on online platforms and affirmed that they would coordinate with functional agencies in the working process.

Notably, Jack (J97) once caused controversy with the lyrics of a song whose lyrics were judged to use offensive language, contrary to fine customs and traditions. He also performed this song in Hanoi even though it was not in the category of songs licensed to be performed at the program.

After a review process, the male singer was administratively fined 55 million VND and suspended from performing activities for 9 months according to the decision of the functional agency.

The above cases show that in the context of strong digital content development, artists are not only subject to audience evaluation but also must comply with legal regulations on performance activities and product release.

Just a detail in lyrics, images or messages can cause products to face a wave of reactions, even being removed from platforms or causing artists to be handled by management agencies.

This trend also reflects the increasing demand for social responsibility of artists, especially when music products have a large spread and direct impact on the public, especially young audiences.
