Recently, the International Federation of Record Industry (IFPI) announced a list of 20 best-selling songs globally in 2024.
The top 3 positions belonged to Benson Boone's "Beautiful Things", Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso", and Teddy Swims' "Lose Control".
Notably, the song APT. by Rose (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars appeared at No. 17. Rose is the only K-pop artist to have a song on the list in 2024.
This also makes Rose the first and only female K-pop artist to make the IFPI's Top 20 best-selling global songs of the year. Previously, in the history of Kpop, only 3 male artists have done this: PSY with Gangnam Style (2013), BTS with Dynamite (2020) and Butter (2021), Jungkook with Seven (2023).

APT. was released on October 18, 2024 and took less than 3 months to become the 17th best-selling song worldwide of the year.
On February 20, the Korean music industry was buzzing with the news of Rose's withdrawal from the Korea Music copyright Association (KMCA). Seo Taiji was the first to do this action in 2002. And after 23 years since Seo Taiji, Rose became the first Korean female singer to withdraw from KMCA.
All of Rose's music rights will now be managed by the American publisher. The proceeds are distributed by the record label that Rose joined in September 2024 - Atlantic Records, based in the US.
According to the media, after the success of the album rosie with the hit APT., Rose is currently the hottest Kpop solo artist in the US. She is active in the US market more than in Korea, and is focusing on international activities.
An industry insider revealed that Rose's revenue in the US market is 10 times higher than that of the Korean market.
With this decision, the singer can manage her copyright more effectively, because if she manages her copyright separately in both the US and Korea, she will have to pay double the fee.
In addition, withdrawing from KMCA creates conditions for Rose to speed up the revenue distribution process. in Korea, it takes about 3 months to get revenue through a KMCA, but if the income is processed in the US through a meager KMCA, it can take from 6 months to 1 year.
