Marvel escapes gloomy days
Before "Spider-Man: New Beginning" was released, Marvel went through a rare period of being questioned about its box office appeal.
In 2025, "Captain America: Brave New World" only grossed about 415 million USD globally, much lower than expectations for a brand that was once a pillar of MCU (Marvel). Not long after, "Thunderbolts*" continued to disappoint when it stopped at about 382 million USD, becoming one of Marvel's lowest revenue projects in many years.
Even "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" - a work expected to open a new chapter for the famous superhero family - only reached more than 520 million USD. Although not considered a failure, this number is still quite modest compared to the period when Marvel continuously owned blockbusters exceeding the 1 billion USD mark.
Three consecutive films that did not create the desired effect made many experts believe that Marvel is falling into a saturation phase. Audiences are no longer willing to go to theaters just because of the name MCU, but demand newer and higher quality stories.
Spider-Man becomes a "lifebuoy
In that context, "Spider-Man: New Beginning" appeared as an important boost. The film quickly surpassed the 1 billion USD global revenue mark, becoming the first Marvel work after "Deadpool & Wolverine" to reach this milestone.
The success of the film shows that Spider-Man's appeal is still very large, but more importantly, Marvel has regained the formula to conquer the audience. Instead of relying on the complex connections between projects, "Spider-Man: New Beginning" focuses on exploiting Peter Parker's inner world with a close story and clear emotions.
This is also a positive sign for Marvel's new strategy. After many opinions that the MCU is developing too spread out with a series of movies and series, the company is tending to narrow down the number of projects, prioritizing script quality and character depth.
The success of "Spider-Man: New Beginning" cannot immediately erase the difficulties that Marvel faces, but at least has proven that this brand is still capable of creating box office phenomenons if the right character and storytelling are chosen.
In particular, the positive results of the film create an important psychological foundation before Marvel releases "Avengers: Doomsday" - a project expected to open a new phase of MCU.
After commercial failures in 2025, Marvel needs more than one high-grossing film. The studio needs to regain the audience's belief that Marvel can still bring worthy cinematic experiences.
From that perspective, "Spider-Man: New Beginning" is not only a billion-dollar blockbuster, but also an affirmation that Marvel is still strong enough to revive after a period of stagnation. The success of the film may not mark the complete return of the superhero empire, but it has opened up opportunities for Marvel to enter a new stage with more expectations.
