On New Year's Eve, according to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, at Dien Phuc Pagoda (also known as Bon Pagoda) in Hong Bach Commune, Dong Hung District, Thai Binh Province, many people were present from 11am to prepare to ask for blessings at the exact moment of the new year's transition.
Locals here say that praying for luck at the right time of New Year's Eve will bring good luck to the family. At the moment of transition from the old year to the new year, the temple bell rings, which is also the time when people go inside to start praying for luck.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (37 years old, in Cong Hoa village, Hong Bach commune) shared: "Bon Pagoda is near my house, so every year, I am a member who is assigned the task of going to the pagoda to ask for luck at New Year's Eve to pray for peace and luck for the whole family. Before going to the pagoda, I will prepare a bundle of incense and a lighter, and when the bell rings, I will light the incense to ask for luck. For generations, for the people of my hometown, this custom has become a beautiful feature in the spiritual and cultural life."
According to the custom of "buying salt at the beginning of the year and lime at the end of the year", when leaving, many people do not forget to ask for blessings from Dien Phuc pagoda, which are small bags of salt, with the hope of "salt in hand; full of happiness, fortune, and longevity".
In Doai village, Hong Viet commune, Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province, hundreds of people also came to the ancient communal house and pagoda in Doai village to pray for luck on New Year's Eve.
