Heavy rain in the Central region in some places is over 200mm, functional agencies request to ensure the safety of irrigation works and limit flooding.

On September 11, the Department of Management and Construction of Irrigation Works (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) sent an official dispatch on ensuring the safety of irrigation works, preventing flooding and waterlogging for agricultural production and rural domestic water shortage due to the impact of heavy rain in the area from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa, Central Highlands and the South.

According to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from September 11-12, the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and the East of Quang Ngai province will have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall of 40-100mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm, in some places over 180mm.

Central Highlands and Southern regions have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 20-50mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm. Risk of heavy rain intensity over 100mm in 3 hours.

Notably, on the day and night of September 13, the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang is forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 50-100mm, locally very heavy rain over 200mm.

The meteorological agency warns that heavy rain in the Central region is likely to continue and develop complicatedly.

Faced with the above developments, the Department of Management and Construction of Irrigation Works requests localities and units to continue to implement the contents of Official Dispatch No. 15/CD-TL-ATĐ dated September 9, 2026.

Measures to ensure the safety of irrigation works and rural clean water supply works; proactively prevent flooding and waterlogging for agricultural production and minimize damage caused by heavy rain.

Previously, on September 9, the Department of Management and Construction of Irrigation Works (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) issued an official dispatch on ensuring the safety of irrigation works, preventing flooding and waterlogging for agricultural production due to the impact of heavy rain in the area from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa, Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.

The Department of Management and Construction of Irrigation Works requests localities and units to closely monitor the diễn biến of rain and floods; inspect dam safety, reservoirs, key irrigation works and works under construction.

For reservoirs with flood discharge gates, management units must base on rain forecasts to develop operating scenarios, proactively lower flood reception water levels; ensure the safety of works, and not discharge floods abnormally causing downstream unsafety.

Damaged and degraded reservoirs at risk of unsafety must be restricted or not stored water, arrange on-duty forces and be ready with evacuation plans for people in downstream areas.
