The person who breathes life into bonsai kumquat in Nam Dinh

Nam Dinh - From a rough kumquat tree stump, through the hands of Mr. Pham Minh Chau (Nam Dien commune, Nam Truc district), he has "breathed life" into valuable bonsai kumquat trees.

Coming to Mr. Chau's kumquat garden at the end of the year, the kumquat bonsai works with beautiful shapes and forms, elaborately shaped, make everyone admire. Mr. Chau shared that creating bonsai trees seems simple and anyone can do it, but creating a tree with soul is not easy. Bonsai works must clearly express its meaning, message and impress the viewer at first sight.

To have a beautiful bonsai tree, first you have to choose the tree embryo. Usually, the embryo for making kumquat bonsai must be an old, healthy kumquat tree that is 5-7 years old. Once he has the embryo, Mr. Chau removes all the original branches and leaves, keeping only the base and branches that he wants to make. Then, depending on the cut embryo, Mr. Chau plants it in the appropriate year to create a canopy and prune the tree. Usually, out of 10 embryos, only 5-6 trees can be kept.

With more than 30 years of experience in making bonsai trees, Mr. Chau said: "All the bonsai kumquat products I make do not need to use small steel wires to shape them. Because when growing the tree embryo, I calculate each main branch and small branch meticulously, growing small branches to be strong and healthy will produce flowers and fruit."

Thanks to his experience and skill, Mr. Chau is recognized as an artisan with a "golden hand" in creating bonsai art. Through his talented hands, kumquat trees become works of art with unique shapes, stories, and meanings to serve the kumquat market during Tet.

This year, Mr. Chau's garden has prepared 500 kumquat bonsai pots to serve customers' demand for bonsai. The price of kumquat bonsai that Mr. Chau sells ranges from 5 to 35 million VND/pot and customers choose to buy from around the 10th lunar month, and by the beginning of December, they will be shipped to celebrate Tet early.

Coming to buy kumquat bonsai at Mr. Chau's garden on December 21, Mr. Ngo Van Hung (in Thai Binh) only had time to choose a small bonsai tree. Mr. Hung said: "A friend from the same hometown introduced me to Mr. Chau's kumquat bonsai garden to choose to buy, but because I arrived late, the kumquat trees were already purchased, only a few small trees remained. The kumquat trees here are diverse in shape, when they are potted, they are decorated depending on the type of tree, very lively".
