Sharing with Lao Dong reporters, Ms. Hong Tuyen - musician Pham Tuyen's youngest daughter - said that 4 days ago her father felt short of breath and low blood pressure, so the family took him to the emergency room.
Seeing that he was weaker, I took my father to the Central Geriatric Hospital for emergency treatment. After a few days of treatment, he was healthier and transferred to a regular room.
His health is currently better. Early next week, if the doctors see that the indicators are stable, the family will ask to take him home," Ms. Hong Tuyen said.
Ms. Tuyen added that at the hospital, the male musician was very cared for by doctors, and his family also cared for him wholeheartedly, so he had a very good spirit.
Musician Pham Tuyen's daughter recounted that her father suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for many years. Therefore, he often felt short of breath, and the family bought an oxygen supply machine, combined with an aerosol for him to regulate his daily breathing.
In 2024, he fell in his private room and had to be treated at Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi), so he walked slower. Recently, Ms. Tuyen bought her father a stroller so that he could move more easily in the house.
At the age of 96, musician Pham Tuyen eats little, cannot sleep much, only dozing off for a few hours each day. Ms. Tuyen and her family also prepared soft, nutritious meals to improve his health.
Although he walks slower, he is still very lucid, still silently follows the music life and always feels the love of the public through his eyes and smiles," Ms. Hong Tuyen confided.
Musician Pham Tuyen (born in 1930) was originally from old Hai Duong (now Hai Phong), one of the big names of modern Vietnamese music. He is likened to a storyteller of history through music.
He owns a fortune of nearly 700 songs, with many famous works: "Như có Bác trong ngày đại thắng", "Từ một ngã tư đường phố", "Gửi nắng cho em", "Con kênh ta đào", "Thành phố mười mùa hoa"...
In particular, his song "Nhu co Bac trong ngay dai thang" is considered a milestone in the great national defense war for independence and reunification of the country (in 1975).
He also composed about 200 songs for children, including the songs: "The Star Lamp", "The Little Elephant in Ban Don", "Our School is a Kindergarten", "Teen and Mother", "The Swallow of Childhood", "Fireworks Night"... which have become an unforgettable part of the memory of many generations.
Musician Pham Tuyen used to be Head of the Music Editorial Board, Head of the Music Troupe of Voice of Vietnam Radio; Head of the Arts and Literature Department of Vietnam Television; Chairman of the Hanoi Musicians Association from 1996 to 2015. In addition, he was also a Standing Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Musicians Association, making an important contribution to building Vietnamese music.
Musician Pham Tuyen was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in the first phase (in 2001) for 5 works: "The Party has given us a spring", "Relying on the homeland's sea", "The Truong Son stick", "Playing the guitar, oh American friend", "As if Uncle Ho is there on the great victory day".
In 2012, he received the 4th Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts for 5 works: "Night Stars Singing", "From the Village of Lotus", "Night on Cha Lo", "Moving Forward to Reunion", "The Party Has Broken My Eyes and My Heart".
