Meritorious Artist Do Ky was born in 1961 in Hanoi. He graduated from the Actress training class of Course I of the Vietnam Drama Theater, the same course as his wife Lan Huong.
Mentioning Do Ky, audiences often remember the image of a gentle-faced man that he often portrays on screen through television dramas such as: "Huong dat", "Nep nha", "Nguoi phan xu", "Ngoi vi tay mau tro lanh", "Trai tim co nang", "Cau hoi so 5", "Noi giac mo tim ve"...
Especially, in the movie "Nếp nhà", Do Ky plays Mr. Khai, Mrs. Giao's husband (played by NSND Lan Huong). This is also the rare and only time the two artists have transformed into husband and wife on screen.
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper, artist Do Ky said that his path to art began with a very accidental fate. After finishing high school, he planned to go to work immediately with the desire to become an engineer, but never thought about pursuing an acting career.
However, when he read the announcement to recruit actors from the Vietnam Drama Theater with a preferential treatment including 18kg of rice per month and a cash salary, he decided to register to try his luck.
He recounted that that year there were 3,000 people taking the exam and taking about 40 actors, luckily he passed 3 rounds and passed.
I have never regretted being an actor. My life does not have the word "if only", because in any environment, I try to do well, so that I don't regret anything later," he confided.
The male artist said that after 30 years of doing spoken drama, he understands the feeling of excitement and enthusiasm when assembling the stage and sadness when after performing, the audience all leaves, the actors quietly pack their belongings and leave. For him, every time he stands on stage, he feels nervous.
Not only successful on stage and screen, Do Ky is also known for his role as an art manager. He used to hold the position of Deputy Director at the Vietnam Drama Theater before taking on the position of Acting Head of the Art Department under the Department of Performing Arts. He officially retired in 2022.
After retiring from the regime for 4 years, Meritorious Artist Do Ky received a pension of nearly 10 million VND/month. He said that he and his wife have a simple, frugal lifestyle, so the pension is enough for expenses.
Artists are not as rich as many people think, the acting profession is like the old saying "if you dry your sweat, you will run out of money". We only have pensions, do not trade in real estate, houses, so we only have enough to eat, until now we still drive an old Cub car, no luxury car to go anywhere...", he confided.
The male artist said that after retiring, he accepted to participate in some TV series and be a judge in some beauty contests.
Because Lan Huong and I have retired, events often invite both husband and wife. We often ride each other on a red Cub motorbike, walking and chatting together," he confided.
If he doesn't go to make movies, he stays at home every day to help his wife clean the house, cook, and film TikTok. When his children are busy, he takes on the task of picking up his grandchildren and taking them out to play.
