Vietnamese Music 2024 - concert explosion and noisy controversy

Ngọc Dủ |

In 2024, Vietnamese music witnessed an explosion of concerts, live shows and music programs, along with controversies and noise.

Music show explosion

If at the beginning of 2024, the Vietnamese music race started quite slowly, from the middle of the year onwards, the market became increasingly vibrant, especially in the last months of the year.

This change began when the two shows “Call Me by Fire” and “Anh trai say hi” aired from June 2024. During the time they were popular on television, many performances of the two shows entered the trending list, becoming hits that lasted for quite a long time. But if we talk about the time of prosperity, it must be when both shows ended and the concerts were organized by the two producers.

Currently, “Anh trai say hi” has performed 4 concerts in both the South and the North, with the number of audiences participating being more than 150,000 people (as announced by the program). Not stopping there, the 5th event is expected to take place soon and the movie about the concert “Anh trai say hi” will also be released in theaters, to enhance the experience for thousands of audiences who love the artists participating in the program.

With “Call Me by Fire”, the program has so far organized 2 concerts in Ho Chi Minh City and Hung Yen, attracting tens of thousands of audiences from all over the country. The third concert is scheduled to take place in March 2025.

Trend of forming music groups

Currently, the fever called “Call Me by Fire” is still hot. Therefore, the announcement of the producer forming a music group has attracted the attention of the audience again.

The band B.O.F, which emerged from “Call Me by Fire”, includes “brothers” such as Jun Pham, S.T Son Thach, BB Tran, Kay Tran and Bui Cong Nam.

Meanwhile, 4 brothers from “Anh trai say hi” including: JSOL (Nguyen Thai Son), Quang Hung MasterD (Le Quang Hung), Duong Domic (Tran Dang Duong) and HURRYKNG (Pham Bao Khang) also formed the music group MOPIUS. The members said that because they found a common voice in music, they decided to form a group to continue spreading positive energy to the audience on a wider scale.

Previously, after the first season of the show "Sister Who Makes Wave", Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Trang Phap, Khong Tu Quynh, Diep Lam Anh, Huyen Baby (Dang Ngoc Huyen) launched the group LUNAS.

There are still controversies

Besides explosive music concerts and outstanding Vietnamese music phenomena, 2024 also saw a lot of noise from plagiarism and vulgar music composition.

Many songs released in 2024 with sexual references and meaningless lyrics spread on online music sites with high interaction rates.

In early June, Tlinh and Coldzy’s song “Fever” was criticized by audiences for being too sexy. Truong Thao Nhi’s song “Danh bat ca xa bo” caused controversy because of its lyrics that were considered meaningless. In addition, many audiences also pointed out that Truong Thao Nhi’s song was similar to Shake that brass by Amber and Taeyeon.

Young singer Do Phu Qui received heavy criticism from the audience for his song “Pickleball”. The song has cliched lyrics, a half-baked melody and arrangement. Not only that, some singers and musicians also named the song in a way that is pun-y, making the audience think it is not suitable for young people.

Vietnamese music is still plagued with plagiarism. Singer Hung Huynh had to delete the music video “Chang the mun mat” because he was criticized for plagiarizing BTS Jungkook.

Many experts say that young artists can freely create but need to be more aware of the influence of lyrics. In particular, they must respect the intellectual ideas of other artists and should not create copycat products that have the opposite effect just to attract attention.

In addition to the above issue, it is also necessary to look back at the story of Vietnamese music groups. Currently, music groups are only established due to trends and trends from the popularity of reality shows. However, the question of sustainability is still a big question for the audience. It can be said that 2024 is a year of quite exciting Vietnamese music but also a lot of controversy.

In 2025, Vietnamese music is predicted to continue to explode as many music shows are starting to take place. However, in order for Vietnamese music to attract and gain a foothold with audiences, it is necessary to create quality products, not tricks or controversy to gain attention.
