Currently, in Dong Cao village, Thong Nhat commune, Ha Long city, there are three quarries in operation, including: Huu Nghi Construction Materials Joint Stock Company, Dung Huy Trading Joint Stock Company and Hoanh Bo Construction Stone Exploitation Company Limited (Hong Cam mine).
Taking reporters to the rented house, Mr. Diep Van Quang (residing in Dong Cao village) shared: "The couple saved more than 500 million VND to build this house in 2013. The project has modern architecture, with 20cm thick walls. This is a place to take care of the couple's old age. However, every time two quarries near my house, Dung Huy Trading Joint Stock Company and Hoanh Bo Construction Stone Exploitation Company Limited (Hong Cam mine), explode, my house shakes, with many cracks appearing across the wall. The family has repeatedly submitted opinions to the commune but it has not been resolved yet".

A similar situation also occurred with the house of Mr. Luc Hoai Son (43 years old) in the same village. Mr. Son said that the quarry did not cut the floor, and the blasting caused the house to shake and many cracks to appear. His family had to repair it themselves.

Previously, in December 2024, Lao Dong Newspaper reported the situation of "smoke, dust, vibration, and crop failure due to the impact of stone mining activities" in Dong Cao village.
Many households are upset because their houses are cracked, their fields are unharvested, the smoke and dust are dense, and the fact that stone mining enterprises are slow to pay to support environmental pollution and health insurance for households.
After the reflection, according to the people, the People's Committee of Thong Nhat commune has organized a meeting with businesses and paid support to affected households.

Specifically, there are 74 households affected, of which 9 households near the nearest quarry received support of 8 million VND/household; the remaining 65 households received 4.61 million VND/household. 302 people were supported with VND500,000/person to buy health insurance.
Talking to the Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Tran Canh Duong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thong Nhat Commune - said: “The commune has received people's petitions about the phenomenon of cracking. The village participates to resolve the recommendations of the people ".
Ha Long City currently has 8 stone quarries in operation. To protect the environment and landscape, Quang Ninh province has a policy and roadmap to end exploitation and close common stone quarries for construction materials in the area by 2025.
