"Cultural Festival for Peace" is a key event in a series of unique cultural activities, directed by the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi city.
The program has profound significance in honoring the historical value of the Capital Liberation Day, and at the same time looking back at 25 years since Hanoi received the title “City for Peace” from UNESCO, affirming the city’s constant efforts in preserving and promoting cultural and historical values, while building an increasingly civilized, modern, and internationally integrated Capital.
The program will take place from 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. on October 6, 2024 at Hoan Kiem Lake area, opening with an incense offering ceremony at the Ly Thai To King Monument, commemorating the great contributions of our ancestors to the cause of liberating and building the Capital.
Next was a special flag-raising ceremony, recreating the first flag-raising ceremony in Hanoi on October 10, 1954, after the capital was liberated. In that solemn atmosphere, about 10,000 delegates attended and sang the National Anthem, creating a particularly sacred moment, expressing national pride and the desire for peace.
One of the highlights of the program is the vivid reenactment of the image of the army marching to Hanoi on the historic day of October 10, 1954, when the Vietnamese army took over the capital, marking the end of colonial rule. This heroic moment will be recreated through large-scale live performances, with the participation of nearly 1,000 soldiers and 200 artists and dancers.
Familiar images such as Long Bien Bridge, where the army entered to take over the capital, or Hanoi Flag Tower, where the red flag with yellow star fluttered during the first flag-raising ceremony on October 10, 1954, will be clearly recreated on stage, bringing deep emotions to the audience.
The main stage of the event will be elaborately staged in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, using live language to recreate historical relics and famous places associated with the capital such as Hanoi Gate, Doan Mon Gate (Imperial Citadel of Thang Long), Long Bien Bridge, and Hanoi Flag Tower. Thereby, the program creates a unique historical and cultural space, helping people and visitors relive the heroic historical moments of Hanoi throughout the 70 years since the Liberation Day of the Capital.
