Settling on Jeju Island (Korea) for 9 years, recently, actress Jin Jae Young publicly expressed concern about the security situation in the locality.
Within 3 days, Jeju continuously discovered 4 bodies. Along with that, a police officer in charge of the disappearance was arrested on charges of forging information to close the case. A series of events have broken the inherent peace of the island.
Recently, actor Jin Jae Young posted on social media a photo of Jeju streets at night, with the caption: "Normally I don't often go out in the evening, but recently in Jeju, even walking is a bit scary.
The actress's worry stems from a series of disappearances and serious incidents that have recently occurred in Jeju.
On the evening of May 12, a 37-year-old woman named Jang Mi Ran, who had lived in Jeju for many years, went missing after going out.
What is controversial is that a police officer over 30 years old in charge of the case arbitrarily concluded the investigation only about 2 and a half hours after receiving a report from the family. This person is accused of lying that he contacted the missing person, and even deleted her profile from the system.
In August, after the family continued to report and the incident received attention, the police reopened the search.
At about 10:46 am on August 24, search forces discovered Jang Mi Ran's seriously decomposed body at a palm farm, about 400m from where she used to live.
The police officer involved is accused of irresponsibility in his work, forging documents and obstructing official duties. On August 25, the court officially issued an arrest warrant for this person.
Currently, South Korean police are conducting a comprehensive review of 298 disappearances that the police officer mentioned above had handled. The police station director and some related management officials were also suspended from work to serve the investigation.
While Jang Mi Ran's case is still causing shock, Jeju continues to discover other bodies.
In just 3 days, from August 22-24, a total of 4 bodies were found in many areas on the island. The continuous discovery of bodies and violations in the process of handling the missing person case have made the security situation in Jeju the focus of attention.
Actress Jin Jae Young was born in 1977, and has been known through many films such as "Sex is Zero", "First love of a royal prince", "My wife is a gangster 2"...
In 2010, she married professional golfer Jin Jeong Sik. In 2017, the actress left Seoul and officially moved to settle in Jeju.
After moving to the island, Jin Jae Young gradually appeared less on screen, focusing on her personal life and online business activities. She once introduced her luxurious private home in Jeju on many SBS programs.
When talking about life in Jeju, Jin Jae Young once said that she has almost no reason to go out and spends most of her time at home. Even before the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in 2020, she was used to a life of rarely going out.
However, despite their rather closed lives, a series of recent incidents and loopholes in the handling process of functional agencies still affect the sense of security of people living in Jeju for many years.
The island, which is considered a peaceful resort destination, is currently facing serious consideration regarding public safety and management. The cause of death in the incidents and the responsibility of those involved are still under investigation.
