Adapted from the 2018 Japanese comedy The Confidence Man JP, Confidence Queen follows three scammers with extraordinary talent, who carry out sophisticated scams targeting villains from all walks of life.
In the film, Park Min Young plays the scammer Yoon Yi Rang - who has an IQ of 165 and a genius intelligence in the top 1%. With strange thinking and strong appeal, she became the leader of the scammers.
Sharing with the Korean media about the project, Park Min Young said "this is an opportunity I can't miss".
As an actress, I always desire to try my hand at vivid, energetic roles with many action scenes. This character gives me the opportunity to express my acting style flexibly, even more explosively than before" - she said.
Looking back at her previous works, the actress compared her new role to her previous hit TV series - You Go and Marry My Husband. In that film, my character Kang Ji Won had to silently endure, and this time I had the right to resist - which made the role extremely attractive.
Meanwhile, director Nam Ki Hoon emphasized that the difference in Confidence Queen from the original is the recreation of the classic film genre. By incorporating traditional crime elements with the humor and Korean cultural setting, the crew hopes the film will open a new era for the K-caper genre (a Korean film genre with fraudulent, action, and comedy elements).
The original version was already excellent, but when making the Korean version, we paid special attention to depicting the engine behind each scam. The film does not stop at the elements of makeup or transformation, but also opens up a series of diverse situations, creating a feeling of a " gift box" for the audience. The crew has tried their best to encapulate many attractive stories and scenes in the same work - the director shared.
Confidence Queen is scheduled to air on the evening of September 6, which means it will face viewership ratings with My Youth starring Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee and The ban of the bully starring YoonA and Lee Chae Min.
