Park Seo Joon's movie is coldly received by audiences

Famous for the title "romantic comedy king", but Park Seo Joon is facing difficulties when recent works are being ignored by audiences.

Park Seo Joon was born in 1988, famous to audiences for starring in a series of romantic comedies such as "Finding Yourself Again", "The Beautiful Girl", "What's with Secretary Kim?", "Youth Struggle"...

In 2020, the male actor's name continued to be consolidated when the movie "Itaewon Class" aired. Taking on the role of Park Sae Ro Yi, Park Seo Joon was highly appreciated for his diverse acting style. Along with that, his curly hairstyle also created a "fever", which many Vietnamese audiences and stars followed.

After the explosion of "Itaewon Class", Park Seo Joon attacked the big screen. He starred in "Dream" with IU, "The Fallen World" with Lee Byung Hun, Park Bo Young, and the blockbuster "The Marvels", but only the movie "The Fallen World" was noticed, and the remaining 2 works, the audience was not very interested.

At the end of 2023, Park Seo Joon reappeared with the movie "Gyeongseong Creature" (Gyeongseong Creature) with Han So Hee. The work was invested nearly 70 billion won (about 54 million USD), but as soon as it was released, it received 95% negative comments, because the setting was not suitable, the dien bien was slow, and the character was built not attractively.

In particular, the 2 main actors lacked novelty, the emotional scenes were forced, and Park Seo Joon's ability to speak Japanese was also the reason why the film received many criticisms.

At the beginning of December this year, Park Seo Joon returned to the small screen with a story with a everyday color - "Mong ngay mai den" (Hope for tomorrow). Although it is a movie project that actors are eagerly waiting for because they believe the plot is easy to empathize with many people, it cannot explode.

After 8/12 episodes, the highest viewership rate that the film achieved was 4.1% - while competitors broadcasting in the same time slot such as "Public Lawyer" or "Golden Age" recorded ratings of 9.1% and 19% respectively.

The film revolves around the love story of the couple Lee Gyeong Do (Park Seo Joon) and Seo Ji Woo (Won Ji An). They had 2 unfinished love affairs at the age of 20, reunited at the age of 30 in a ironic situation - Gyeong Do is a reporter reporting on a cheating scandal and Ji Woo is the wife of the central man in the incident.

It can be seen that the main reason why the film is not welcomed is the slow pace, too many exaggerated details. Although the main couple has gone through many years of love - breakup - reunion, their emotions are expressed in a timid and awkward way.

In particular, the scene when Gyeong Do and Ji Woo imagined the dance scene in episode 5 was considered to break the emotional flow, evoking associations with the movie "La La Land" but lacking depth, reducing the audience's ability to engage.

The abuse of using filters, editing images in flashback scenes, or having many provocative dialogues related to sexual elements is also a disadvantage.

In this work, Park Seo Joon's acting did not have many breakthroughs, while co-star Won Ji An was criticized for limited pronunciation, not fully expressing the inner world of the character. Both, although quite a good couple, did not create much gap despite the 11-year age difference, but they lacked cohesion when acting together.
