Improve quality, but not attract audiences
Trang Quynh Nhi: Legend of the Golden Eagle will be shown nationwide from June 14, right after De Men: The adventure to Lam Loi hamlet - an animated film also from Vietnam that will be released in theaters from May 30.
Trang Quynh Nhi: Legend of Kim Nguu is 98 minutes long and tells the story of the main character, the gold boy Quynh, who is arrogant and always thinks he is the best. An unexpected incident occurred when Quynh's parents were wanted because they were suspected of appropriating royal treasures.
Quynh was lucky to be helped by her small friends in the Khoai village and a strong, gentle "Bull". From here, Quynh and the children of "child" Coi, "walk" Bi, and little Muoi were caught up in a dangerous adventure, going through countless difficult journey while finding justice for their father and making justice for their family.
While De Men: The adventure to Lam Loi hamlet (directed by Mai Phuong) took the crew 10 years to nurture the idea, nearly 3 years to implement.
The film is inspired by the classic children's book by writer To Hoai - De Men adventure ky. The director said that he did not adapt but only took part of the idea because the original story was written by the author in each chapter, with a long story.
If the film De Men: The adventure to Lam Loi hamlet (female director Mai Phuong) received good reviews for its modern effects, vivid appearance and profound humane message, Trang Quynh Nhi: The Legend of Kim Nguu by director Trinh Lam Tung is considered to have a meaningful plot, images rich in cultural identity, folk art...
Although there are many positive points and going to theaters in the summer to catch up with young audiences, it is clear that at present, the two projects have not received many positive results from revenue.
De Men: The adventure to Lam Loi hamlet earned more than 19.3 billion VND (as of the afternoon of June 17). However, revenue began to show signs of decline as foreign blockbusters continued to be released.
After two days of early screening, Trang Quynh Nhi: The Legend of Kim Nguu earned 940 million VND. Up to now, this animated film has shown signs of slowing down and has only achieved a revenue of 1.1 billion VND, as of the afternoon of June 17.
This revenue shows that Vietnamese animated films, despite many improvements in content, effects as well as incorporating meaningful lessons, have not been widely accepted by audiences in theaters.
The hundred-billion-dong dream is still full of hardship
Compared to the film powers in the world, Vietnam's animation still has many limitations. Therefore, it is a reality that, although there are many Vietnamese cartoons with good quality released in theaters, it is not easy to attract audiences because of the great competition.
Obviously, looking at the shown schedule in theaters, the two Vietnamese cartoons have to compete with the cartoon "Doraemon 44" - a work that surpassed the hundred billion mark at the Vietnamese box office and is still holding its appeal in theaters.
Vietnamese cartoons are weaker in competition outside theaters because they have not created their own brands. films such as: Doraemon, Conan... have all had a large fan base from stories to movies over the years. Meanwhile, Vietnamese animation projects are still gradually conquering audiences, facing many difficulties to affirm their position in theaters.
In addition, the media effects as well as promotional factors of cartoons are also limited, which has led to some impact on revenue.
However, to be fair, although the story of Vietnamese animated films reaching hundreds of billions in theaters is still a dream and challenge for filmmakers, there is still a good sign because domestic producers have begun to pay more attention to this genre.
After De Men: The adventure to Lam Loi hamlet and Trang Quynh Nhi: The Legend of the Wealthy Family, Vietnamese cinema will soon have Wolfoo & The Warlock Race.
The fact that Vietnamese-produced animated films are continuously released in theaters is a good sign for the film market in general. The increasingly improved quantity and quality of films will help the audience have a more open and positive view of Vietnamese animated films. And from there, filmmakers can completely expect to achieve higher revenue, the Vietnamese film market will have more quality animators.
