Based on a webtoon (web comic) by Kang Full, “Light Shop” tells the story of individuals who are drawn to a mysterious lamp shop run by Won Young (Joo Ji Hoon).
The guests who come here are all unusual in their own way, with characteristics such as dirt constantly falling from their ears, fingernails growing on the back of their hands, or water constantly flowing from their bodies...
The story also takes place simultaneously at a hospital, where nurse Young Ji (Park Bo Young) forms strange connections with people who visit the lamp shop.
The film officially aired on December 4 and ended on December 18. The work was highly appreciated for its plot as it tells the story of people on the threshold between life and death.
As the characters' personal stories are revealed, the initial atmosphere of fear the viewer feels gradually transforms into a humane, profound story.
Along with beautiful, mysterious camera angles, the impressive acting of the cast is also a plus point of “Light Shop”. Therefore, it is not surprising that the film has a high number of views on the platform, only after “Moving” (Super Junior Team) - also written by Kang Full.
Thanks to the success of the film, the webtoon “Light Shop” is experiencing a surge in popularity.
According to Kakao Entertainment (webtoon distribution platform), the number of original webtoon reads on Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page has increased 187 times, and revenue from webtoons has also increased 159 times (from December 11 to 16).
It is worth mentioning that not only “Light Shop” but “Moving” is also receiving attention from the public with the number of reads doubling and revenue tripling.
In fact, if the audience/readers have watched or read “Moving” and “Light Shop”, they can see that the characters in the two series mentioned above all exist in a common universe.
In the final episode of “Moving”, Kim Young Tak - who has the superpower to stop time - is also the main character in the webtoon “Timing” by Kang Full, making a special appearance, leading many to believe that he will be the male lead in part 2.
Meanwhile, with “Light Shop”, the cameo of Jang Hui Soo (Go Yoon Jung) - the female lead of the movie “Moving” makes the audience believe more that Kang Full will have another movie adapted from his multiverse webtoons after “Light Shop”.
However, Kang Full once confessed that he felt pressured to create a hit work. However, the male artist said that with “Light Shop” or “Moving”, each work attracted the audience with its own unique appeal.
“Moving is a superhero story with superpowers, so it is a more accessible genre for audiences. “Light Shop” is a combination of horror, thriller and romance, providing a deeper emotional approach,” he said.
