With "My Lai Baby", the film is inspired by the My Lai massacre in 1968 - the film is expected to bring a humane, in-depth perspective on human fate, especially children in the smoke of war.
According to director Hoang Nam, "My Lai Baby" does not follow the path of recreating war with happened upon guns or fierce military conflicts. Instead, the film chooses a slow storytelling style, focusing on the survival journey of a boy in a historical incident, thereby reflecting the pain, loss and desire to live and be loved by children in a harsh time.
The project's direct inspiration comes from the famous war photo that shocked international public opinion, recording the moment a boy shielded his younger sister in front of a gun in the My Lai (Quang Ngai) massacre. For Hoang Nam, it is not only a historical document, but also a symbol of the instinct to protect, of family love and humanity that still lingered even in the darkest moments of war.
According to Hoang Nam, the project "My Lai Baby" is in the script development and pre-production stage.
However, when the project "My Lai Baby" had not yet announced the official filming schedule, director Hoang Nam released his second movie, "The miracle generation" after the success of "The Heart of the Heart" - earning more than 105 billion VND.
Although he expected the project "Generation of miracles" to conquer young audiences, when the film was released, it caused great controversy. Many audiences criticized the project for lacking depth, illogical plot, poor acting, lack of script, and dramatic dialogue...
This led to the film "The miracle generation" earning only over 800 million VND despite an investment of 26 billion VND. Director Hoang Nam also admitted that his film was a failure.
When talking about the project "My Lai Baby", Hoang Nam once affirmed that whether or not to launch this project depends largely on the revenue and success of the film "The miracle generation". Because Hoang Nam affirmed that he had donated all his money to this second film project. Therefore, the failure of "Miracle Generation" has caused the project "My Lai Baby" to fall into a difficult situation, even having to be postponed for a long time.
