Create an open space to attract audiences to the theater stage

Depending on the number of loyal and familiar audiences is not a long-term solution for stages if they want to develop and reach new audiences.

The stage is heavily dependent on the number of regular audiences

After the stage flourished in early 2025 when the number of audiences coming to the cinema was large, many new plays were continuously released, but from March onwards, the stage slowed down somewhat.

Tran Huu Trang Theater, Hoang Thai Thanh Theater, The Gioi Tre Theater, 5B small theater theater, Truong Hung Minh Theater, Hong Van Theater... are still constantly lit up. However, many shows, even with good quality plays and serious investment, still cannot fill the stands.

The reporter surveyed and participated in a number of plays on stages such as Hong Van stage, Truong Hung Minh stage - 2 famous stages in Ho Chi Minh City, but the audience was only crowded with new performances, new plays or often on holidays and weekends. On weekdays, the audience is quite absent, some stages even choose to perform on weekends and limit performing on weekdays to save costs, avoiding the situation of leaving too many empty seats.

Some old plays such as blood, sweet strawberry ... by Truong Hung Minh, the ghost wife of Hong Van stage or beautiful despite the 5B small stage has a modest audience. In particular, the majority of the audience came to see the play as the audience because the stages in Ho Chi Minh City have their own strengths. However, just relying on the loyal audience is not necessarily a good direction of the stages. Because this audience is not crowded, only focusing on this number only makes the stage difficult to expand, approaching the number of new audiences without changes, improving the way of operating the stage.

What does the audience need?

Currently, the audience has too many entertainment options, such as at the present time, it is the peak Vietnamese film season when many works are famous in theaters. This has attracted a large number of audiences to watch movies instead of plays.

It can be said that theatrical stages in recent times have made efforts to retain audiences by changing plays, bringing technology and effects to the stage to create a new and interesting feeling for viewers. However, the stage still has some unresolved problems such as: The stage space is still simple, closed, the reception is rigid, the play is too long, little interaction with the audience...

Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi - stage representative Truong Hung Minh said that in the coming time, he and the cast and crew will strive to improve and find shortcomings to bring new experiences to the audience. In particular, the core thing that artist Minh Nhi is interested in is still the script factor. Continuously changing new plays is also a way to make the audience more excited and eager to buy tickets to watch the play.
