On September 27, the TV series "Gyeongseong Creature" will air part 2, continuing the story in Seoul (Korea) in 2024, when Yoon Chae Ok (Han So Hee) meets a new character Ho Jae - who looks exactly like Jang Tae Sang (Park Seo Joon).
Director Chung Dong Yoon shared that in part 2, the nightmares of the past will reappear in modern Seoul, when strange serial murders occur throughout the city. Chae Ok's encounter with Ho Jae will help them untangle their unfinished relationships and fates.
To portray the 79-year time gap (part 1 was set in 1945), the film will adopt a fast-paced narrative compared to the somewhat static narrative of the film when depicting old Seoul. Along with that, the crew strives to convey the message of not compromising or bowing down to those who act cruelly for personal gain.
As the male lead of the film, Park Seo Joon takes on dual roles - Tae Sang and Ho Jae at two points in time. For the actor, this is both a challenge and a new experience in his career.
“Moving to a modern setting in part 2 gives me a very fresh feeling even though it is the same work. It is interesting to explore new ways to portray my character, from appearance, profession to the way of expressing emotions. The action scenes in part 2 also become more vivid and spectacular in terms of images.”
Meanwhile, Han So Hee said she focused more on expressing the passage of time. “As a character living alone in this era, I focused a lot on how Chae Ok endures. The style also had to be dark because she has to live a life like a shadow.”
According to the actress, her character is half human, half monster with extraordinary strength after eating Najin (parasitic worms), so she also had to practice many action scenes to make her movements faster and more precise. The role helped her overcome her fear of heights thanks to scenes using wires.
Along with that, the crew revealed that in part 2, the romance between Ho Jae and Chae Ok is one of the main highlights. Regarding this, Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee expressed confidence that with the modern setting, they can easily approach the characters, and the dialogue is also more natural.
However, contrary to the crew's expectations, there are still many concerns when part 1 of the film received 95% negative comments, according to Allkpop.
In addition to the setting being criticized for being meaningless to the plot, slow development, and unattractive character development, the acting of Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee was also criticized for lacking novelty and not creating the expected "chemistry".
According to Korean newspapers, compared to the supporting cast such as Wi Ha Joon, Jo Han Chul, Ji Woo..., the couple was almost overshadowed. Even Park Seo Joon's Japanese speaking ability was the reason why the audience lost interest in watching the movie.
Along with that, Han So Hee's private life scandal also caused her to lose a significant number of fans, although the actress believes that her problem will not affect her work or the audience's love for the film.
