Recreating classic plays
The 5B Drama Theater has just recreated 2 classic plays: "The Night of the Howling liver" and "The Song of the Pearl Garden bird". In particular, with the play "The Night of the Howling Vultures", the stage crew invited Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu and Quach Ngoc Tuyen to participate in the performance.
According to the representative of stage 5B, the reason for remaking the play "The Night of the Howlingctuck" is because this translated play carries a meaningful message about protecting the forest environment and depicting human greed. In general, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu performed her role quite well and was the highlight of "The Night of the Howling Whale".
As for The Pearl Garden bird, it is known that this is a play that has been recreated after more than 2 decades. The play was born in 1999 and was considered a hot event in the theater industry at that time with the participation of veteran artists: People's Artist Diep Lang, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, People's Artist Hong Van, People's Artist Viet Anh, People's Artist Kim Xuan and artist Quoc Thao.
The play "The Pearl Garden bird" returns with the participation of Vo Minh Lam. Although he is considered a beautiful double of the cai luong village, it is clear that when he entered the role in this play, the male artist did not really show a breakthrough compared to the previous veteran generation.
Loi co Luu, Tieng ho dong Hau and Nung Hai Ben Nghe are classic stage scripts that will once return to the audience in 2025.
Cai Luong Theater Tran Huu Trang has re-performed two plays Doi Co Luu and Tieng Ho Song Hau.
Mr. Phan Quoc Kiet - Director of Cai Luong Theater Tran Huu Trang - said that the reconstruction of classic cai luong plays is part of the the theater's plan to create opportunities for young actors to access quality plays and good roles to practice their skills. Inviting veteran directors to collaborate in staging is also an effective way for young actors to learn and progress. This is also a way to help solve the problem of scripts that have been lacking in recent times. According to experts, "Doi Co Luu" and "Tieng Ho Song Hau" when performed again, the young artists participating in the two plays tried their best to bring fresh colors to the roles. Bringing the plays of the past closer to today's audience.
Pressure and challenges
According to People's Artist My Uyen - representative of the 5B drama stage, the possibility of a classic play being a famous play is that it helps to easily reach the audience, especially those who have loved the play for many years. However, rebuilding and renewing a classic play is not easy, the crew has to face many challenges. First, it is the stage of selecting the right actor. Because classic plays all have depth in emotions, content and messages, actors are not only suitable for roles in appearance but also as a force to act.
Reenacting classic plays will easily create comparisons with the audience. In particular, the audience can easily put on the scale to compare current young actors with veteran artists. This is also a big pressure for actors.
Recently, it is clear that the theater stage has had more positive changes. In particular, the stage's constant efforts to innovate plays help the audience have many options to enjoy the art of the stage. This also opens up expectations that 2025 will be a breakthrough year for the drama industry in Vietnam.
