During the resistance war against the US, Bach Dang Shipbuilding Factory (now Bach Dang Shipbuilding Company Limited) provided a large number of combat vehicles: rebuilding the engineering pontoon bridge across the North-South route, warships, HF350 ships using magnetic bombs, unmanned torpedo ships (T5) without man, "unnumbered" ships transporting weapons to support the South... Therefore, US aircraft have dropped bombs on the factory many times.
In early 1965, the 37-lap anti-aircraft artillery battlefield was built right in the factory premises. This is one of dozens of artillery sites built since the early years of the US escalation to destroy the North, and is now still there.
From 1967 to the end of 1972, under the direct command of the Military Region 3 Command, the 350 Command, the air defense forces of the Bach Dang Shipyard stayed on site, fought 227 matches, shot down 7 modern fighter jets and coordinated to shoot down many others.
The 37-lap anti-aircraft artillery site was renovated and repaired in 1972 and has been maintained on a total area of 1,176 m2 and is preserved to this day.
The construction site includes 3 fireworks mounds with an area of 58 m2, 1 command post with an area of 6 m2 and 1 fireworks storage house containing 3 fireworks; arranged to be built in the Company's wharf area, right at the intersection of Ha Ly and Cam rivers.
Not only is it an air defense artillery site of the factory's self-defense forces fighting to protect the city's airspace and protect the factory during the years of the American Imperial war, it is also a regular location for training and practice and an air defense site of the city when unexpected situations occur.
With historical values and heritages still preserved, in January 2023, the 37-licre Air Defense Fireworks battlefield was decided by the Hai Phong City People's Committee to be ranked as a city-level historical relic. Since then, the relic has welcomed thousands of visitors, most of whom are students in Hai Phong City to visit, study, and learn about revolutionary traditions and heroic feats in the construction and protection of Hai Phong City.
