Set in the old Southern region, "Debt of Life, Borrowing and Repaying" revolves around the life of Hai Phan - a poor girl with many ambitions to change her life. Because of her desire to step into a wealthy family, the character is gradually drawn into wrong choices, creating a series of prolonged tragedies for herself and those around her.
Besides the story of money and status, the film deeply explores family conflicts, jealousy, betrayal and difficult-to-resolve emotional debts. The characters are constantly put into a vortex of love and hate, where each decision entails heavy consequences.
In the film, Duong Cam Lynh plays Ngoc Mai - a gentle, altruistic woman but with a fate full of misfortunes. The character is drawn into injustices, and finally loses her life in pain and brings a secret that has not yet been revealed.
Although only appearing in the first 10-15 episodes, the character Ngoc Mai is considered the "knot" that opens up the entire chain of events later. Her death leads to hatred, misunderstandings that last for many years and become the cause of a series of tragedies in the next generation.
The noteworthy point of "Nợ đời vay trả" is the way the film exploits the element of cause and effect - a familiar motif of old Southern films. The characters constantly face the consequences of their own choices, from blind love, material ambition to selfishness and hatred.
The work also incorporates many dramatic details such as property disputes, conspiracies to harm, love triangles and family secrets hidden for many years. The film's atmosphere is boosted by a series of continuous upheavals, creating a heavy psychological color but rich in melodrama - a film genre that is familiar to television audiences in the Mekong Delta and the South.
Sharing about the reason for accepting to participate in the project, Duong Cam Lynh said she was convinced by the depth of the character's fate as well as the message that the film conveys.
My character is wrongly accused, killed but still chooses to hug the pain to the grave so as not to sow more hatred for her child. I like the message of karma and the altruism of this character," the actress said.
Debt of Life, Borrowing and Repaying" also features the participation of Nguyen Quoc Truong Thinh, Thanh Binh, Thanh Hien and Huynh Hong Loan, under the direction of Meritorious Artist Ho Ngoc Xum.
