US President Donald Trump on May 11 declared Iran's response to the peace proposal put forward by Washington as "completely unacceptable", reducing hopes of an early end to the 10-week conflict between the parties.
On the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump wrote: "I don't like that - COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE", but did not elaborate. After the US and Iran failed to reach a consensus, oil prices increased by $3/barrel.
According to Iranian state media, Tehran's response focused on the request to end the fighting on all fronts, especially in Lebanon, while emphasizing maritime safety issues in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also requested war reparations, an end to naval blockade, lifting sanctions and ending the country's oil export ban.
Tasnim news agency reported that Iran also emphasized Tehran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US proposed a ceasefire before entering discussions on Iran's nuclear program.
The Wall Street Journal quoted unnamed sources as saying that Iran proposed diluting part of the high-enriched uranium and transferring the rest to a third country. Pakistan, which is mediating, has forwarded Iran's response to the US.
Although there was a ceasefire order about a month ago, the Gulf region still experienced many tense developments. Unmanned aerial vehicles were detected in the skies of many Gulf countries on May 11.
Qatar confirmed that the liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship Al Kharaitiyat has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz to reach Pakistan's port of Qasim. According to data from Kpler, this is Qatar's first LNG ship to cross this strait since the US and Israel launched a military operation on February 28.
Iran is also said to have allowed a cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag to pass through the Strait of Hormuz along the route designated by the Iranian armed forces.
In the waters near Qatar, the UK Maritime Trade Coordination Center said that a cargo ship was attacked by an unidentified object while moving about 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha. The incident caused a small fire but was extinguished, with no casualties or environmental pollution.
